Herman Goldstine
Herman Heine Goldstine (September 13, 1913 – June 16, 2004) was a mathematician and computer scientist, who worked as the director of the IAS machine at Princeton University's Institute for Advanced Study and helped to develop ENIAC, the first of the modern electronic digital computers. He subsequently worked for many years at IBM as an IBM Fellow, the company's most prestigious technical position. Early life Herman Heine Goldstine was born in Chicago in 1913 to Jewish parents. He attended the University of Chicago, where he joined the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity, and graduated with a degree in Mathematics in 1933, a master's degree in 1934, and a PhD in 1936. Israel Goldstine
Israel Joseph Goldstine (20 May 1898 – 16 January 1953) was mayor of One Tree Hill, New Zealand, from 1931 until he retired in 1947. He was a prominent barrister and solicitor in Auckland and chaired several high-profile New Zealand boards. Early life and education Goldstine was born in Brisbane, Australia, but brought up and educated in Auckland, attending Auckland Grammar School. Goldstine studied law at Auckland University College. Adele Goldstine (; December 21, 1920 – November 1964) was an American mathematician and computer programmer. She wrote the manual for the first electronic digital computer, ENIAC. Susan Goldstine
Susan Goldstine is an American mathematician active in mathematics and fiber arts. She is a professor of mathematics at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and (for 2019–2022) the Steven Muller Distinguished Professor in the Sciences at St. Mary's College. Education and career Goldstine graduated ''summa cum laude'' from Amherst College in 1993. She completed a Ph.D. in mathematics at Harvard University in 1998. Her dissertation, ''Spin Representations and Lattices'', was supervised by Benedict Gross. After postdoctoral and visiting assistant professorships at McMaster University, Ohio State University, and Amherst College, she joined the St. Mary's College faculty in 2004.
