Goldsboro, Florida
Goldsboro is a community and former town in Seminole County, Florida. It was founded by the Freedmen's Bureau and later incorporated in 1891. One of the oldest African-American founded communities in the United States, it was established only a few years after nearby Eatonville. Angola, Florida, a settlement of escaped slaves, was established during Spanish rule in Florida. In 1911, the community was annexed into Sanford, Florida. History The Freedmen's Bureau established Goldsboro during the Reconstruction Era for African Americans who worked at local railroad yards, farms, produce house and ice houses. In 1891, residents of Goldbsoro pursued incorporation of the town, publishing notices in the ''Sanford Journal'' as early as October 24, 1891. The town was incorporated at noon on December 1, 1891 by merchant William Clark and 19 registered African American voters. Walter Williams served as Goldsboro's first mayor until 1892. Goldsboro (formerly Goldsborough) is a borough in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 930 at the 2020 census. For historical reasons, the post office in Goldsboro is named "Etters", although there is no incorporated place known by that name, and the United States Postal Service (USPS) states that the name "Etters" is preferred over "Goldsboro" for addressing mail to ZIP code 17319. History In 1738 Nathan Hussey, a Quaker, from New Castle County, Delaware, obtained a grant for land on which the Village of Goldsboro now stands. In 1743 a road from Walnut Bottom, now in Cumberland County, to Hussey's ferry was built. The turnpike was completed in 1816 from York to Harrisburg. Goldboro is a Canadian rural community in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. Located on the Eastern Shore along Route 316, Goldboro is approximately 16 kilometres west of the shire town of Guysborough. Mining and energy developments In 1861 gold was discovered in quartz veins on the Isaac's Harbour anticline to the east of the community. All together 14 mines were developed in this area producing some 140,000 ounces of reported production. Production ceased in 1941 with the closure of the Lower Seal Harbour Mine. In 1892, Howard Richardson was the first to note gold within shale and quartz veins which became generally known as the Boston Richardson Belt. Mining on the property began in 1892 when the Richardson Gold Mining Company started developing the belt and continued until 1912. Kevin Roentgen (pronounced "rent-gehn") is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and formerly guitarist for the rock band Orson, who is currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. Roentgen is previously known for fronting L.A. rock bands American Pearl (Wind-Up Records), SOUL (Elektra Records) and Goldsboro. Following the break-up of American Pearl, Roentgen spent most of 2003 in the studio writing and demo-ing new songs. The result was Praying Hands, ''The Acoustic EP'', recorded and co-produced by Noah Shain at White Buffalo Studio in Hollywood. In 2005, Roentgen joined L.A. band Orson as a guitarist. Robert Charles Goldsboro (born January 18, 1941) is an American pop and country singer and songwriter. He had a string of pop and country hits in the 1960s and 1970s, including his signature No. 1 hit "Honey", which sold over 1 million copies in the United States, and the UK top-10 single "Summer (The First Time)". Goldsboro starred in his own television show, ''The Bobby Goldsboro Show'', from 1973 to 1976. He also created the children's series '' The Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon''. Early life Goldsboro was born in Marianna, Florida. During his first year of life, his family moved north from Marianna to Dothan, Alabama.
