Goldenberg Scandal
The Goldenberg scandal was a political scandal where the Kenyan government was found to have subsidised exports of gold far beyond standard arrangements during the 1990s, by paying the company Goldenberg International 35% more (in Kenyan shillings) than their foreign currency earnings. Although it notionally appears that the scheme was intended to earn hard currency for the country, it is estimated to have cost Kenya the equivalent of more than 10% of the country's annual gross domestic product, and it is possible that no or minimal amounts of gold were actually exported. The scandal appears to have involved political corruption at the highest levels of the government of Daniel Arap Moi. Officials in the former government of Mwai Kibaki have also been implicated. Richard Goldenberg (born 21 November 1947) is a French chess FIDE Master (FM) and International Correspondence Chess Master (1986), a two-times French Chess Championship silver medalist (1978, 1981). Edward Goldenberg (born 1948), known as Eddie Goldenberg, is a Canadian lawyer and writer who served as a senior political advisor to Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Charles R. "Buckets" Goldenberg (April 15, 1911 – April 16, 1986) was an All-Pro National Football League (NFL) American football player. He is often credited as the originator of the draw play by forcing Sid Luckman to hand off with his blitzing. Biography Goldenberg was born in Odessa, Russian Empire, and was Jewish. Samuel Goldenberg (1883/1884–1945) was an actor in Yiddish theatre on stage and screen. Career Goldenberg worked as a tailor before becoming a leading Yiddish-language actor-singer-pianist. Grigory Goldenberg
Grigory Goldenberg (also referred to as Gregory Goldenberg or "Grigorii Goldenberg"; 1855–1880) was a Russian revolutionary and member of the «Narodnaya Volya» (People's Will) organisation. Revolutionary life Born at Berdichev, son of a Jewish merchant, he moved to Minsk where he became involved in revolutionary politics. Goldenberg was arrested and exiled in 1878 to Arkhangelsk for his revolutionary activities. S. Larry Goldenberg, (born 1953) is a Canadian researcher in the field of medicine and a pioneer in the treatment of prostate cancer. Hyman Carl Goldenberg, (October 20, 1907 – July 22, 1996) was a Canadian lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, and senator who is best known for his work as an arbitrator in major labour management disputes.
