The first 15 events of the Golden Helmet race was held on the 2400 m long turf racetrack of Velká pardubická Steeplechase in Pardubice from 1929 to 1963. Friedrich "Fritz" Dirtl (1928–1956) was an international speedway rider from Austria. Speedway career Dirtl was a two times champion of Austria after winning the Austrian Individual Speedway Championship in 1949 and 1951. He was also a six times Longtrack champion of Austria. Dirtl was tragically killed competing in the 1956 Individual Speedway World Championship, at the Continental final stage. He was involved in a crash with fellow Austrian rider Josef Kamper and then fell into the path of Mieczysław Połukard. Miloslav Špinka
Miloslav Špinka (3 December 1919 – 26 April 2009) was a Czech motorcycle speedway. He earned international caps for the Czechoslovakia national speedway team. Biography Špinka came to prominence after winning the bronze medal at the Golden Helmet of Pardubice. He also took part in ice races and won the first post-war competition in Czechoslovakia, held in 1947 on Kamencové jezero in Chomutov. In 1950 and 1956, he was runner-up in the Czech Republic Individual Speedway Championship and in 1956, was called up to the Czechoslovak speedway national team, where he remained a member until 1961. On 31 May 1959, he was the first Czechoslovak rider to win the qualifying round of the individual world championships, winning the quarter final during the 1959 Individual Speedway World Championship, held at Stražišče Sports Park in Kranj. František Juhan
František (Franta) Juhan (1914-1992) was a Czechoslovak motorcycle racer in speedway, road racing and trials. Career He has won the Golden Helmet of Pardubice in 1938 and was a member of the 1937 medal-winning Czechoslovakian Six Days Trials Team. He was the brother of the famous Porsche racer and Pan America champion Jaroslav Juhan. Jaroslav won for Porsche also raced a Ferrari Testarossa 250TR in 1958 at Le Mans.
