The Golden Eagle Award for Best Leading Actor (russian: Премия «Золотой Орёл» за лучшую мужскую роль в кино) is one of twenty award categories presented annually by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia. It is one of the Golden Eagle Awards, which were conceived by Nikita Mikhalkov as a counterweight to the Nika Award established in 1987 by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences. Each year the members of the academy choose three leading actors and the film as a perception. The first actor to be awarded was Viktor Bychkov for the film '' The Cuckoo''. The most recent award was made to Yuri Borisov for ''AK-47''. Yevgeny Mironov, Sergei Garmash, Nikita Mikhalkov, Konstantin Khabensky, Vladimir Mashkov, and Fyodor Bondarchuk are the most successful artists, winning twice each. The Golden Eagle Award (russian: link=no, премия Золотой Орёл) is an award given by the National Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences of Russia to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, directors, actors, and writers. Modelled after the American Golden Globe Awards, the formal ceremony at which the awards are presented is one of the most prominent award ceremonies in Russia, alongside the Nika Award. The national Russian award is given out in 20 categories each January for motion pictures and TV series produced in Russia during the previous year. The awarding statuette is a silver eagle, originally made from copper with a jade pedestal, and was designed by sculptor Viktor Mitroshin. Aleksandr Nikolaevich Baluev (russian: Алекса́ндр Никола́евич Балу́ев; born 6 December 1958) is a Soviet and Russian theatre and film actor who appeared in more than 100 films and numerous stage productions since 1980. Life and career Aleksandr Baluev was born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He graduated in 1975 from Moscow School № 637. After unsuccessful attempts to enter the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute he worked for a year as assistant illuminator in the light department at Mosfilm. ''Our Own'' (russian: Свои, Svoi) is a 2004 Russian action drama film directed by Dmitri Meskhiyev. Plot In October 1941, the Soviet Union is experiencing an invasion by Nazi Germany. ''Brigada'' (russian: Бригада), also known as ''Law of the Lawless'', is a Russian 15-episode crime television miniseries that debuted in 2002. It became very popular in Russia and ex-Soviet countries as well as Eastern Europe, but received criticism for positive portrayal of criminals and aestheticization of violence. ''The Idiot'' (russian: Идиот) is a costume drama TV series of Vladimir Bortko produced by Telekanal Rossiya in 2003, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1869 novel of the same title. The series' script is very close to Dostoevsky's original text, and the series features well-known Russian actors. According to bonus materials included on the DVD, in order to improve authenticity, serious efforts were made to capture the spirit of the time, through proper way of speaking, and through very careful selection of costumes for the actors to wear. The series was branded by the novel's original pre-1920s orthography title "идіотъ" (in all caps) instead of the current "идиот" as one will find it on the bookshelves in Russia (to promote the atmosphere of the tsarist time when the film's plot takes place). BGN/PCGN romanization system for Russian is a method for romanization of Cyrillic Russian texts, that is, their transliteration into the Latin alphabet as used in the English language. There are a number of systems for romanization of Russian, but the BGN/PCGN system is relatively intuitive for anglophones to pronounce.
