Golden Casket
Golden Casket is the public limited lottery corporation in Queensland, Australia trading on the Australian Stock Exchange. It sells lottery tickets and Instant Scratch-Its (scratchcards) through newsagents and other convenience stores. Lottery draws are televised on Channel Seven four nights a week. The drawing of the first Golden Casket in 1917 by Queensland Patriotic Fund was to raise money to support veterans of World War I. The operation was soon taken over by the Queensland Government. In 1938, the casket paid for the construction of the new Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital. In April 2007 the Queensland Government sold Golden Casket to gambling company Tattersall's Limited for $530 million, with the proceeds going to the Royal Children's Hospital. The government will retain ownership of the Queensland asset, receive the $150 million held in reserves and continue to receive lottery taxes. The Seven Network (commonly known as Channel Seven or simply Seven) is a major Australian commercial free-to-air Television broadcasting in Australia, television network. It is owned by Seven West Media, Seven West Media Limited, and is one of five main free-to-air television networks in Australia. The network's headquarters are located in Sydney. South Australian Lotteries (SA Lotteries), is a lottery company that operates in the Australian state of South Australia. While the license to operate lotteries in South Australia is owned by the South Australian Government they in turn appointed Tatts Group Pty Ltd as the Master Agent and license holder. SA Lotteries operates under Tatts Group's master brand the Lott. SA Lotteries syndicates national games (including X-Lotto (Mon/Wed/Sat), Powerball, Oz Lotto, The Soccer Pools). SA Lotteries also has its own version of Keno. In November, 1965 a referendum was passed in South Australia which allowed for the establishment of a state owned lottery company. New South Wales Lotteries, (usually marketed and referred to as NSW Lotteries or the Lott) is a corporation owned by the Government of New South Wales in Australia. Since 2 March 2010, it has been operated by Tatts Group Limited under a 40-year exclusive licence. It runs games of chance through a network of agents, most of which are newsagencies. Royal Children's Hospital, Brisbane
The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) was a hospital for children in Herston, Queensland, Herston, Brisbane, Australia. RCH was located next to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital before it was demolished and the land was used to build the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS). History Mary McConnel (pioneer), Mary McConnel, a mother of six and grandmother, grew concerned at the lack of primary care for children in Brisbane. Inspired by the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh, Royal Hospital for Sick Children in her home town of Edinburgh and London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, she endeavoured over fifteen years to raise money to found a children's hospital in the Brisbane.
