Golda Madden
Golda Madden (July 17, 1886 – October 26, 1960) was an American actress active during Hollywood's silent era. Biography Madden was born in Red Cloud, Nebraska, in 1886. She was a first cousin of actor/director Harold Lloyd on her mother's side. She began appearing in plays in Chicago in the early 1910s and was signed to Mack Sennett's Keystone in 1916. She retired from acting in the early 1920s and afterward enjoyed a rich social life, serving as president of the Velada Club—a women's group—in Hollywood. She also served as production manager for the Little Theater of Beverly Hills in the 1930s. Harold Lloyd
Harold Clayton Lloyd, Sr. (April 20, 1893 – March 8, 1971) was an American actor, comedian, and stunt performer who appeared in many silent comedy films.Obituary ''Variety'', March 10, 1971, page 55. One of the most influential film comedians of the silent film era, Lloyd made nearly 200 comedy films, both silent and "talkies", between 1914 and 1947. His bespectacled "Glass" character was a resourceful, ambitious go-getter who matched the zeitgeist of the 1920s-era United States. His films frequently contained "thrill sequences" of extended chase scenes and daredevil physical feats. Lloyd hanging from the hands of a clock high above the street (dangerous, but risk exaggerated by camera angles) in ''Safety Last!'' (1923) is considered one of the most enduring images in cinema. Like many American films of the time, ''The Lamb'' was subject to cuts by city and state film censorship boards. The Chicago Board of Censors required cuts of the first, fourth, and sixth tough dancing scenes and of the men wiggling their backs in comedy duel scenes. ''Fires of Rebellion'' is a 1917 American silent drama film written and directed by Ida May Park, and starring Lon Chaney, William Stowell, and Dorothy Phillips. The film is today considered lost. A still exists showing Lon Chaney in the role of the lecherous photographer Russell Hanlon. The film's main musical theme was Serenade (6/8 Andantino) by R. Czerwonky. Like many American films of the time, ''Fires of Rebellion'' was subject to cuts by city and state film censorship boards. The Chicago Board of Censors required two cuts in the film, the first removing an intertitle in reel 1 reading "Never mind, my fine lady, you won't be so fresh this time tomorrow night," and the second in reel 5 removing a closeup of a strangulation scene. Prints of the film survive at the film archive of the Museum of Modern Art. Plot Ginger, a tailor, finds two tickets to a baseball game in the pocket of a customer's garment. He calls his girlfriend to tell her to meet him at the ballpark. Ginger is unaware that a fellow tailor, Snitch, sneakily lifted the tickets from his pocket. When Ginger and his girl arrive at the ballpark for the game, Ginger realizes the tickets are gone. He has no money, so his attempt to buy tickets proves fruitless. Snitch sees Ginger's girl and takes her into the ballpark with him using the tickets he stole.
