BWF World Championships
The BWF World Championships, formerly known as IBF World Championships, and also known as the World Badminton Championships, is a badminton tournament sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament is one of the most prestigious in badminton, offering the most ranking points, together with the Summer Olympics badminton tournaments which was first introduced in 1992. The winners of this tournament are also crowned as "World Champions" of the sport, and are awarded a gold medal. The tournament started in 1977 and was held once every three years until 1983. However, the IBF (International Badminton Federation) faced difficulty in hosting the first two events as the World Badminton Federation (which later merged with the IBF to form one badminton federation) hosted the same tournament a year after the IBF World Championships with the same goals. Yoo Sang-hee is a former female badminton player from South Korea. Kim Moon-soo (badminton)
Kim Moon-soo (born 29 December 1963) is a former badminton player from South Korea. Career He has won 2 titles in the BWF World Championships, World Badminton Championships in men's doubles. He also won a gold medal at the badminton at the Summer Olympics, Summer Olympics and 3 All England Open Badminton Championships in men's doubles. All of these were gained with fellow countryman Park Joo-bong, his regular partner during most his badminton career. In 1988, Kim married fellow 1985 IBF World Championships, 1985 World Champion Yoo Sang Hee after Yoo retired from international badminton. Kim himself retired in 1993, after contributing to Korea's 1993 Sudirman Cup, Sudirman Cup victory. Kim competed for Korea in badminton at the 1992 Summer Olympics in men's doubles with partner Park Joo-bong. Park Joo-bong
Park Joo-bong (Hangul: 박주봉; Hanja: 朴柱奉; born 5 December 1964) is a former badminton player from South Korea who excelled from the early 1980s through the mid-1990s. Career Park is one of the most successful players ever in the World Badminton Championships with 5 titles, 2 of them in men's doubles and 3 in mixed doubles. He also won a gold and a silver medal at the Summer Olympics and 9 All England Open Badminton Championships titles. Though Park was primarily a doubles player, the greatest one ever in the opinion of some, he was capable of world class level singles which he displayed in occasional tournaments and Thomas Cup appearances early in his career and currently holds the South Korean national record of 103 consecutive wins in men's singles from 1981 to 1984. Han Aiping
Han Aiping (; April 22, 1962 – October 16, 2019) was a Chinese badminton player in the 1980s who ranks among the greats of the woman's game. Noted for her superb overhead strokes, she and her teammate, rival, and sometimes doubles partner Li Lingwei dominated international singles play for most of the decade, each winning the IBF World Championships twice, and led Chinese teams to victory in Uber Cup (women's world team) competitions. Han Jian (; born July 6, 1956 in Liaoning) is a Chinese retired badminton player in the early and mid 1980s when China first entered the International Badminton Federation (now Badminton World Federation). Career He was one of the world's leading players in his era, known for his cool and steady play. Wu Dixi (, born 1962 in Nanhai, Guangdong) is a retired Chinese female badminton player. Career Wu was part of a cadre of Chinese players who dominated women's international badminton after China became a member of the International Badminton Federation in 1981. Lin Ying (, or Lam Ying in Cantonese, born 1963) is a Chinese former badminton player and one of the most successful doubles specialists in the sport's modern history.
