The Gold Bauhinia Star (, GBS) is the highest Bauhinia Star rank in the honours system of Hong Kong, created in 1997 to replace the British honours system of the Order of the British Empire after the transfer of sovereignty to People's Republic of China and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). It is awarded to those who have given distinguished service to the community or rendered public or voluntary services of a very high degree of merit. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, commonly known as the Hong Kong Government or HKSAR Government, refers to the executive authorities of Hong Kong SAR. It was formed on 1 July 1997 in accordance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1983, an international treaty lodged at the United Nations. This government replaced the former British Hong Kong Government (1842–1997). The Chief Executive and the principal officials, nominated by the chief executive, are appointed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. The Government Secretariat is headed by the Chief Secretary of Hong Kong, who is the most senior principal official of the Government. Cheng Hon-kwan
Dr. Cheng Hon-kwan, GBS, OBE, JP (; born 16 May 1927) is a Hong Kong engineer and politician. He was the member of the Executive Council and Legislative Council of Hong Kong in the 1980s and was chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Authority from 2000 to 2002. Education and government career Cheng was born in Hong Kong on 16 May 1927 and was educated in Beijing and Tianjin. He received Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Tianjin University in 1948 and moved to Hong Kong. He joined the Hong Kong government as an assistant structural engineer to the architectural office of the Public Works Department in 1953. He subsequently studied abroad in England and graduated with the Diploma of Imperial College in Concrete Structures and Technology from the Imperial College London in 1964. Peter Wong Hong-yuen
Peter Wong Hong-yuen, GBS, OBE, JP (born 25 April 1944, Shanghai) was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (1988–95). He was President of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants from 1984 to 1985 and was elected Legislative Councillor to represent the accountancy functional constituency from 1988 to 1995. John Chan Cho Chak, GBS, CBE, LVO, JP (born 8 April 1943) is a Hong Kong civil servant and executive. He currently serves as a non-executive director of Transport International Holdings Limited, The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited, Long Win Bus Company Limited, RoadShow Holdings Limited, Hang Seng Bank Limited, Guangdong Investment Limited and Swire Properties Limited. Antony Leung Kam-chung GBS OBE JP (born 29 January 1952 in Hong Kong with family roots in Shunde, Guangdong) is a businessman who served as Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), from 29 May 2001 until his resignation on 16 July 2003. He was embroiled in a financial scandal in early 2003 after it was revealed he had bought an expensive Lexus car shortly before imposing a new car tax, creating a controversy over conflict of interest that earned him the nickname "Lexus Leung" and which ultimately led to his resignation in July of that year. Leung Chun Ying
Leung Chun-ying (; born 12 August 1954), also known as CY Leung, is a Hong Kong politician and chartered surveyor, who has served as vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference since March 2017. He was previously the third Chief Executive of Hong Kong between 2012 and 2017. Michael Suen
Michael Suen Ming-yeung GBS CBE; born 7 April 1944) who served as Acting Chief Secretary for Administration in 2005 and 2012 and as Secretary for Education of Hong Kong from 2007 to 2012. Tang Hsiang-chien, GBS, OBE, JP (, 8 June 1923 – 10 March 2018) was a Hong Kong industrialist. Personal Tang was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province in what was then the Republic of China. Leo LEE Tung-hai (1921–2010) was the Chairman of the Board of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals from 1970–1971, businessman and philanthropist in Hong Kong. Lee died on 8 June 2010.
