Andoni Goikoetxea Olaskoaga (born 23 August 1956), Goiko for short, is a Spanish former football centre-back and manager. He was known for his aggressive play and was nicknamed "The Butcher of Bilbao". He mainly played for Athletic Bilbao; among the club's fans, he was also known as ''El Gigante de Alonsotegui'' (The Giant of Alonsotegui). Goikoetxea was a Spanish international in the 1980s. He won 39 caps, and represented the country in the 1986 World Cup and Euro 1984. Jon Andoni Goikoetxea Lasa (born 21 October 1965), often known as Goiko, is a Spanish retired footballer. An attacking player of wide range, he operated in various positions on the right side of the pitch (right-back, midfielder or forward), and was best known for his Barcelona spell, during the club's ''Dream Team'' years. Having amassed La Liga totals of 386 matches and 37 goals in 13 seasons, Goikoetxea appeared for Spain at the 1994 World Cup. Mauro Daniel Goicoechea Furia (born 27 March 1988) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Uruguayan Primera División team Danubio. Mikel Lasa Goikoetxea (born 9 September 1971) is a Spanish football retired player and current manager. He played as a left back. He currently manages Futuro Kings FC in Equatorial Guinea. He played 267 La Liga matches over 13 seasons (six goals scored), representing Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Lasa was part of the squad that won the Olympic gold medal in 1992. Sergio Javier Goycochea (; born 17 October 1963) is an Argentine former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is best known for helping his country reach the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final with his penalty kick saves. Career Goycochea was the substitute for Nery Pumpido both in River Plate and in the Argentina national team, and got his big break in the 1990 FIFA World Cup. When Pumpido broke his leg in Argentina's second group game against the Soviet Union, Goycochea stepped in and remained the team's starting goalkeeper for the remainder of the tournament. Alejandro Goicoechea Omar (his first surname is also spelled Goikoetxea) (23 March 1895 - 30 January 1984) was a Spanish engineer. Biography Goicoechea worked for the remote coal narrow gauge railway of La Robla (León), the longest narrow gauge line in Western Europe which today is operated by FEVE, developing a welded steel carriage and various elements of suspension, brakes and traction. In 1936 he suggested a lightweight articulated meter gauge trainset which however was not approved by the management. Goicoechea authored the Iron Belt to protect Bilbao during the Spanish Civil War. Ángel Suquía Goicoechea (2 October 1916 – 13 July 2006) was a Spanish Catholic cardinal who served as archbishop of Madrid from 1983 until 1994. He was educated at the La Salle Christian Brothers at Beasain from 1925 until 1927. He entered the Minor Seminary of Saturrarán, Motrico, Guipúzcoa, and remained there until 1931, whereupon he entered the Major Seminary of Vitoria, until 1936. When the Spanish Civil War started in 1936, he was destined to the fort of Guadalupe as a soldiers' instructor. Don (honorific), Don Felipe Antonio de Goicoechea was born in 1747 in Cosalá, Sinaloa, Mexico. He joined the Spanish military at age 35 as a cadet. In June 1782, was promoted to alférez. In 1783 while serving in the presidial company of Buenavista, Baja California Sur, Buenavista (Lower California), Don Felipe was commissioned as lieutenant and received orders to proceed to Alta California to take command of the Presidio of Santa Barbara. He assumed command in Santa Bárbara on January 25, 1784, taking over from José Francisco Ortega. He supervised construction of the fortifications and living quarters for the soldiers and their families and remained in command until 1802. Florentino Goikoetxea (Goicoechea, Goikoetxe) (1898-1980) was a Basque who worked for the Comet Escape Line during World II. A smuggler by profession, he guided more than 200 Allied airmen shot down in occupied Belgium and France over the Pyrenees mountains to neutral Spain from where they could be repatriated to the United Kingdom. Jacinto Argaya Goicoechea (November 28, 1903 in Vera de Bidasoa, Navarra – March 12, 1993 in Valencia) was a Spanish-Basque prelate of the Catholic Church. Goicoechea was born in a very traditionalist and conservative family. During the Spanish Civil War, he was a stalwart against Communism.
