''Gogol. The Beginning'' (russian: Гоголь. Начало, Gogol. Nachalo) is a 2017 Russian fantasy- horror film directed by Yegor Baranov loosely based on works by Nikolai Gogol from the 1832 collection ''Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka''. The title role is played by Alexander Petrov. ''Gogol. The Beginning'' is the first of three films of the project ''Gogol'' and the first Russian television series to have a theatrical release. The first episode (film) was nominated for the Best TV CEE Series award at the Serial Killer festival. Plot Chapter One. Murders in Dikanka The year is 1829. Young Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol, a judicial clerk in the Third Section of His Imperial Majesty's Own Chancellery in St. Petersburg, suffers seizures on the job, falling into a semi-conscious state in which he is pursued by strange visions and writes seemingly meaningless words. Egor Baranov
Egor Baranov (russian: Егор Баранов; born December 3, 1988 in Yekaterinburg) is a Russian film director. In 2006, he entered the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography for directing faculty, studied in the studio of Sergei Solovyov (film director), Sergei Solovyov and Valery Rubinchik. In 2018 he graduated from the university with a red diploma. In 2012 Baranov published his directorial debut, ''Suicide'', with Yevgeny Stychkin, Alexey Vorobyov and Oksana Akinshina. Vasyl Panasovych Hohol-Yanovsky ( uk, Василь Панасович Гоголь-Яновський; 1777 – 31 March (11 April) 1825) also known as Vasily Gogol-Yanovsky was an author of a number of theater pieces in Russian and in Ukrainian and father of the writer Nikolai Gogol. Pavel Yurievich Derevyanko (russian: Па́вел Ю́рьевич Деревя́нко, born 2 July 1976) is a Russian theatre and film actor. Biography Pavel Derevyanko was born in the city of Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union.
