Goerke Field is a stadium in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. It is primarily used for American football and is the home to the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point Pointers, the Stevens Point Area Senior High School Panthers, and the Pacelli High School Cardinals. Until the 1980s, Goerke Field's stands consisted of a concrete grandstand on only the north side, for all fans, with press and coach boxes. By the 1980s, aluminum bleachers were installed on the south side, to accommodate visiting teams' fans, as well as adhere to WIAC standards. The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point (UW–Stevens Point or UWSP) is a public university in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Established in 1894, it is part of the University of Wisconsin System. Stevens Point Area Senior High (commonly called SPASH) is a high school located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, United States. It is part of the Stevens Point Area Public School District. Pacelli High School is a private secondary school located on the north side of Stevens Point, Wisconsin in the Roman Catholic Diocese of La Crosse. The school, named in honor of Pope Pius XII, was founded in 1955 by Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (Christian Brothers). History Originally an all-boys high school, Pacelli merged with the all-girls Maria High School in the early 1970s to create a co-ed school offering a college-prep curriculum. The school is currently housed in the former Maria High School building. The former Pacelli building on Division Street is now home to the local YMCA. Artificial turf is a surface of synthetic fibers made to look like natural grass. It is most often used in arenas for sports that were originally or are normally played on grass. However, it is now being used on residential lawns and commercial applications as well. The main reason is maintenanceartificial turf stands up to heavy use, such as in sports, and requires no irrigation or trimming. Domed, covered, and partially covered stadiums may require artificial turf because of the difficulty of getting grass enough sunlight to stay healthy.
