Godspower Oboido
Godspower Oboido (born 10 November 1988) is a Nigerian poet and Christian preacher. His poetic voice has been compared to that of Christopher Okigbo and Leopold Senghor, two all-time leading figures of African poetry and influences that mark Oboido's style of poetry. Biography Early life The last child of his parents, Godspower Oboido was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He completed his primary school education in Benin City and went to High Schools in Benin City and Iyede, a small town in Delta State. Career Literary career Godspower Oboido began writing in Lagos after an unsuccessful attempt to pursue a film career. In the beginning, he wrote many screenplays and stage plays, including "Shut Up and Sit Down" which he self-published. The Future Awards Africa
The Future Awards Africa (previously known as The Future Awards) are a set of awards given by The Future Project, a social enterprise communications firm affiliated to Red Africa. The awards are intended to celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration. ''Forbes'' has described the awards as "Nigeria’s most important awards for outstanding young Nigerians". The idea for the awards was conceived by Chude Jideonwo, Adebola Williams, and Emilia Asim-Ita in 2005. History The Future Awards Africa first event was on February 6, 2006, at Magnolia Hall, City Mall, Lagos. The venue changes and the 2011 event was at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. Queen's Young Leader Award
Queen's Young Leader Award was an annual award given in recognition of leadership skills by young persons between the ages of 18 and 29. The award was open to selected Commonwealth of Nations to recognize exceptional people or organizations who are making a difference in improving other citizen's lives. The program was established by the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, in partnership with Comic Relief and the Royal Commonwealth Society. The programme closed in 2019. Christopher Okigbo
Christopher Ifekandu Okigbo (16 August 1932 – 1967) was a Nigerian poet, teacher, and librarian, who died fighting for the independence of Biafra. He is today widely acknowledged as an outstanding postcolonial English-language African poet and one of the major modernist writers of the 20th century. Early life Okigbo was born on 16 August 1932, in the town of Ojoto, about from the city of Onitsha in Anambra State. His father was a teacher in Catholic missionary schools during the heyday of British colonial rule in Nigeria, and Okigbo spent his early years moving from station to station. Despite his father's devout Christianity, Okigbo had an affinity, and came to believe later in his life, that in him was reincarnated the soul of his maternal grandfather, a priest of Idoto, an Igbo deity. Chris Emery
Chris Emery, also known as Chris Hamilton-Emery (born 23 November 1963), is a British poet and literary publisher. Biography Emery was born and grew up in Manchester, England, and went to a convent-run primary school in New Moston before attending grammar school in Prestwich. It was following this that he began to study sculpture, painting and printmaking. He continued at Manchester College of Art and Design before taking a degree at Leeds Polytechnic, graduating in 1986. He subsequently destroyed all his art work, and began to focus upon his writing.
