Godfried Van Mierlo
Godfried van Mierlo, O.P. (2 February 1518 – 28 July 1587) was a Dominican friar who served as the Bishop of Haarlem and the last direct Abbot of Egmond Abbey from 1570 to 1578. Biography Van Mierlo was born in the City of Helmond on 2 February 1518, then the Duchy of Brabant, part of the Habsburg Netherlands. He entered the Dominican Order in 1533, at the age of 15, in 's-Hertogenbosch. He professed his religious vows as a friar of the Order the following year. After completing his studies, he was ordained a Catholic priest in 1542. He gained the degree of doctor of theology and was appointed as the Prior Provincial for Holland. Van Mierlo was named the Bishop of Haarlem and the Abbot of Egmond Abbey in March 1570 by Pope Pius V. He was welcomed to that city in early 1571, where he was consecrated a bishop on February 11 of that year in the original Cathedral of St. Bavo by Franciscus van der Velde, the Bishop of Antwerp. Gotfrid (also ''Gotefrid'', modernized ''Gottfried''; la, Gotfridus or ''Cotefredus''; (c. 650–709) was the Duke of Alemannia in the late seventh century and until his death. He was of the house of the Agilolfing, which was the dominant ruling family in the Frankish Duchy of Bavaria. In a document dated to the year 700 in Cannstatt, Gotfrid at the request of a priest named Magulfus donated the castle of Biberburg to the monastery of Saint Gall. Gotfrid fought a war over his ''de facto'' independence with the mayor of the palace Pepin of Heristal. The war was unfinished when Gotfrid died in 709. Jonkheer Pieter Godfried Maria van Meeuwen (11 March 1899 in 's-Hertogenbosch – 9 February 1982 in Ulestraten) was a Dutch judge and a politician. Van Meeuwen studied law at Leiden University and obtained his degree in 1924. After working as a lawyer in 's-Hertogenbosch until 1927 he was a court clerk at the local arrondissement court until 1930. Van Meeuwen subsequently judge at the same court, which he remained until 1936. He then took up a similar position at The Hague court, which he kept until 1949. He then acquired a seat in the court of justice (''Dutch'':Gerechtshof) in the same city. He stayed on until 1951, and then took up a similar position at the court of justice of 's-Hertogenbosch. In 1955 he transferred to the canton court of Heerlen, where he served until April 1969. Michiel Godfried "Mike" Eman (born September 1, 1961) is an Aruban politician who served as the 3rd Prime Minister of Aruba from 2009 to 2017. His political career began in 2001, but Eman has been involved in politics in one way or another since his childhood. Hendrik Godfried Duurkoop (5 May 1736, Dornum – 27 July 1778, at sea) was a Dutch merchant-trader and VOC Opperhoofd in Japan. During his career with the Dutch East Indies Company (the ''Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie'' or ''VOC''), he worked on Dejima, a small artificial island in the harbor of Nagasaki, Japan. Duurkoop was born in East Frisia. In 1755 he arrived in Batavia, where his brother lived. In 1759 he was sent to the VOC trading post or "factory" at Dejima. In 1771 he was appointed bookkeeper. Duurkoop took up his duties as ''Opperhoofd'' or chief negotiant in November 1776. Early 1777 he made a hofreis to Edo. The Japanese insisted that after one year each opperhoofd had to leave the post. During his stay in Batavia, he was infected with malaria; he died on board the ship "Huis ter Spijk" en route back to Japan in 1778. Godfried-Willem Raes is a Belgian composer, performer and instrument maker. He is the founder of the Logos Foundation of which he is still the president. He holds a PhD from Ghent University and is professor of experimental music composition at the Ghent Royal Conservatory. Life Raes was born in Ghent, Belgium in 1952. He studied musicology and philosophy at the Ghent State University as well as piano, clarinet, percussion and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Ghent. As a concert-organizer he has been responsible from 1973 until 1988 for the new-music concert programming of the Philharmonic Society at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels.
