George Godber
Sir George Edward Godber (4 August 1908 – 7 February 2009) served as Chief Medical Officer for Her Majesty's Government in England from 1960 to 1973. He was also part of the team that planned the National Health Service (NHS) and, as deputy Chief Medical Officer and subsequently Chief Medical officer, campaigned against smoking and for immunization against polio and diphtheria. Early life and education Godber was born on 4 August 1908, the son of Bessie Maud (née Chapman) and Isaac Godber, a nurseryman in Willington, Bedfordshire; he was the third of seven children, 5 boys and 2 girls. When he was eleven he lost sight in one eye due to an accident. Godber was educated at Bedford Modern School between 1917 and 1920, at Bedford School between 1920 and 1927, and at New College, Oxford, where he read medicine, gained a rowing blue and took part in two losing boat races. John Godber
John Harry Godber (born 18 May 1956) is known mainly for observational comedies. The ''Plays and Players Yearbook'' of 1993 rated him the third most performed playwright in the UK after William Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn. He has been creative director of the Theatre Royal Wakefield since 2011. Biography Godber, born in Upton, West Riding of Yorkshire, trained as a teacher of drama at Bretton Hall College, which is affiliated to the University of Leeds, and became artistic director of Hull Truck Theatre Company in 1984. Before venturing into plays, he was head of drama at Minsthorpe High School, the school he had attended as a student, and then wrote for the TV series ''Brookside'' and ''Grange Hill''. Joseph Bradshaw Godber, Baron Godber of Willington, (17 March 1914 – 25 August 1980) was a British Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party politician and cabinet minister. Background Godber was educated at Bedford School, between 1922 and 1931, and became a nurseryman. He became chairman of the county glasshouse section of the National Farmers Union (England and Wales), National Farmers Union and of the publicity and parliamentary committee. '' Porridge'' is a British sitcom, starring Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale, written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, and broadcast on BBC1 from 1974 to 1977. The programme ran for three series, and included two Christmas specials and a feature film of the same name (in the United States, the film was released under the title ''Doing Time''). The sitcom focuses on two prison inmates, Norman Stanley Fletcher (played by Barker) and Lennie Godber (played by Beckinsale), who are serving time at the fictional HMP Slade in Cumberland. Peter Fitzroy Godber (; born 7 April 1922) was a Chief Superintendent of the Hong Kong Police Force, Royal Hong Kong Police Force, serving as Deputy District Commander of Kowloon, Hong Kong. Embroiled in a bribery scandal shortly before his retirement in 1973, he fled to the United Kingdom. He was apprehended in 1974 by British police and extradited back to Hong Kong and subsequently convicted for police corruption and bribery. Godber was sentenced to four years in prison with Hong Kong Dollar, HK$25,000 in restitution. Peter Clark Godber (born July 17, 1994) is a Canadian football offensive lineman for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). College career Godber played college football for the Rice Owls football, Rice Owls from 2013 to 2017. Professional career BC Lions At the 2018 CFL combine, Godber was asked to leave after declining to participate in events due to illness. Despite this, he was able to work out at Rice's pro day, where his results would have ranked in the short shuttle, three-cone and bench compared to other lineman if it were done at the combine.
