Conrad Goclenius
Conrad Goclenius (or in German "Conrad Wackers" or "Conrad Gockelen") was a Renaissance humanist, and Latin scholar, and the closest confidant of humanist Desiderius Erasmus, who was born in Mengeringhausen in the Landgraviate of Hesse in 1490, and died in Leuven on January 25, 1539. Life Little is known of his youth, except that as a child he attended the school of humanist Alexander Hegius von Heek in Deventer. In November 1510 he enrolled at the University of Cologne, and later moved on to Old University of Leuven. He became Master of Arts November 10, 1515, and then supported himself by private teaching. In 1518 he was ordained to an ecclesiastical benefice. In October 1519, he succeeded Adrianus Barlandus as Latin teacher at the Collegium Trilingue, where he taught Jacob Cruucke and Andreas Masius who would later become notable humanists in their own right. Rudolph Goclenius
Rudolph Goclenius the Elder ( la, Rudolphus Goclenius; born ''Rudolf Gockel'' or ''Göckel''; 1 March 1547 – 8 June 1628) was a German scholastic philosopher. Gockel is often credited with coining the term "psychology" in 1590, though the term had been used by Marko Marulić at least 66 years earlier. Gockel had extensive backing, and made significant contributions to the field of ontology. He extended the development of many ideas from Aristotle. Several of Gockel's ideas were published and built upon by later philosophers. Life He was born in Korbach, Waldeck (now in Waldeck-Frankenberg, Hesse). He attended the universities at the University of Erfurt, the University of Marburg and the University of Wittenberg, where he finished his studies with a M.A. in 1571. Rudolph Goclenius The Younger
Rudolph Goclenius the Younger (born ''Rudolph Göckel''; 22 August 1572 – 3 March 1621) was a German physician and professor at Philipps University of Marburg. Goclenius was born in Wittenberg, the oldest son of Rudolph Goclenius, who was also professor of physics, logic, mathematics and ethics at Marburg. He enrolled at the University of Marburg at the age of 15. As a student, Goclenius was a respondent to his father in a physical disputation and received his master's degree in 1591. After obtaining his medical degree in 1601, Goclenius became the first rector of the newly founded gymnasium in Büdingen and a personal physician (''archiatrus'') to Wolfgang Ernst I, Count of Isenburg-Büdingen. In 1608, he was appointed to the professorship of physics, astronomy and arithmetic at Marburg University.
