Goat Island or Te Hāwere-a-Maki is a tiny island (approximately ) in New Zealand located close to the North Island coast, north of Auckland, northeast of Warkworth, and directly west of Little Barrier Island. It is within Cape Rodney-Okakari Point Marine Reserve, New Zealand's first marine reserve. History The island is spiritually significant to the local Māori tribe, Ngāti Manuhiri, because their ancestral waka (canoe), ''Moekākara'', is said to have landed nearby. The Cape Rodney-Okakari Point Marine Reserve was established in 1975, making Goat Island and the surrounding waters a protected area. As well as being in a marine reserve, Goat Island is a scenic reserve. Maryland has 281 named islands within its many waters and waterways, including the Atlantic ocean; the Chesapeake bay and its many tributary tidal rivers, creeks and bays; as well as within larger whitewater rivers like the upper Potomac. These Islands are relatively permanent, although some are disappearing on the scale of a few centuries, like Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay. Goat Island Light
Goat Island Light is a lighthouse located off Cape Porpoise near Kennebunkport, Maine, Kennebunkport in southern Maine. Goat Island Light was established in 1835 to guard the entrance to Cape Porpoise Harbor. The original station was upgraded in 1859 to the current brick tower with a fifth order Fresnel lens. Keeper's quarters were added to the island in 1860. The light station was automated by the United States Coast Guard in 1990 and is currently active. The keepers dwellings and tower are leased to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. Goat Island Light can be seen from shore in Cape Porpoise Harbor just off Maine State Route 9, State Route 9 north of Kennebunkport or is viewable by boat. The island is currently closed to the public except by special arrangement. Suisun Bay
Suisun Bay ( ; Wintun for "where the west wind blows") is a shallow tidal estuary (a northeastern extension of the San Francisco Bay) in Northern California. It lies at the confluence of the Sacramento River and San Joaquin River, forming the entrance to the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, an inverted river delta. To the west, Suisun Bay is drained by the Carquinez Strait, which connects to San Pablo Bay, a northern extension of San Francisco Bay.
