Go Jun Bong-class Tank Landing Ship
''Go Jun Bong''-class tank landing ship ( Hangul: 고준봉급 전차상륙함, Hanja: 孤準峰級戰車上陸艦) is an amphibious landing ship class of the Republic of Korea Navy. Development In the late 1980s the Republic of Korea Navy decided to gradually replace its aging fleet of WW2 era ''LST-542''-class tank landing ships (renamed ''Un Bong'' class) bought from the US Navy in 1958. A three phase plan was laid out to develop new landing ships to meet the demands of modern amphibious and transport operations. The first phase was designated as the LST-I project, and development and design started in 1987 by Korea Tacoma, currently Hanjin Heavy Industries. Newport-class Tank Landing Ship
''Newport''-class tank landing ships were an improved class of tank landing ship (LST) designed for and employed by the United States Navy from 1969 to 2002. The ships were intended to provide substantial advantages over their World War II-era predecessors. Larger and faster than any previous LST design, they carried a ramp over the bow that allowed them to surpass , a goal of the United States amphibious forces. 27 were planned of which twenty were completed, the high number due to the demands of US force projection estimates. Landing Craft
Landing craft are small and medium seagoing watercraft, such as boats and barges, used to convey a landing force (infantry and vehicles) from the sea to the shore during an amphibious assault. The term excludes landing ships, which are larger. Production of landing craft peaked during World War II, with a significant number of different designs produced in large quantities by the United Kingdom and United States. Because of the need to run up onto a suitable beach, World War II landing craft were flat-bottomed, and many designs had a flat front, often with a lowerable ramp, rather than a normal bow.
