Gnomedex
Gnomedex was a single-track technology conference hosted by Chris Pirillo, the owner of Lockergnome, LLC and was produced by Chris Pirillo and his staff at Lockergnome. Pirillo was the co-host of the show Call For Help on the former cable television channel TechTV. Gnomedex started as an outgrowth of Pirillo's technology newsletters, IRC channel and web site. The conference name is a satirical portmanteau of Pirillo's Lockergnome and the now-defunct Comdex technology trade show, which was a massive and influential annual event at the time of the first Gnomedex conference. Gnomedex has grown into a conference exploring new and emerging technologies with influencers, entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts as the primary audience. Chris Pirillo
Chris Pirillo is an American entrepreneur and former television personality. He is the founder and former CEO of LockerGnome, Inc., a now-defunct network of blogs, web forums, mailing lists, and online communities which are now closed. He is best known as the former host of ''Call for Help,'' a call-in tech support show which, at the time, aired on TechTV. He hosted the show from 2001 to 2003. Career Pirillo began his career in 2000 as the host of a call-in technical support show on WHO (AM) in Des Moines, Iowa. The following year, TechTV hired Pirillo to host ''Call for Help.'' Fucked Company was a website created by Philip J. "Pud" Kaplan after the dot-com bubble in 2000 as a " dot-com dead pool" that chronicled troubled and failing companies in a unique and abrasive manner. The website also sold rumor listings to subscribers. The site's name is a parody of ''Fast Company'', a magazine that began covering technology companies during the Internet dot-com boom. A September 10, 2000 attempt by Kaplan to put the entire site up for sale on eBay attracted joke bids as high as $10 million but no serious buyers.
