Gnanasigamony Devakadasham
Gnanasigamony Devakadasham became the fifth Bishop of Kanyakumari of the Church of South India (CSI) in 2001. He was elected as Deputy Moderator of CSI Synod on 14 January 2010. Devakadasham was also the Moderator of the CSI Synod from 2010 to 2012. Kanyakumari Diocese
The Diocese of Kanyakumari is one of the 24 dioceses under the Church of South India. The diocese was constituted on 2 June 1959. Present status The diocese has a membership of 4,91,762 people and has assets, funds and savings of about Rs. 600 crores. The Church of South India (CSI) is a united Protestant Church in India. It is the result of union of a number of mainline Protestant denominations in South India after independence. The Church of South India is the successor of a number of Protestant denominations in India, including the Church of England; Church of India, Burma and Ceylon (Anglican); the United Church of Christ ( Congregationalist); the British Methodist Church; and the Church of Scotland after Indian Independence. Moderator Of The General Assembly
The moderator of the General Assembly is the chairperson of a General Assembly, the highest court of a Presbyterian or Reformed church. Kirk sessions and presbyteries may also style the chairperson as moderator. The Oxford Dictionary states that a Moderator may be a "Presbyterian minister presiding over an ecclesiastical body". Presbyterian churches are ordered by a presbyterian polity, including a hierarchy of councils or courts of elders, from the local church (kirk) Session through presbyteries (and perhaps synods) to a General Assembly. The moderator presides over the meeting of the court, much as a convener presides over the meeting of a church committee.
