__NOTOC__ Gmina Prostki is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Ełk County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. Its seat is the village of Prostki, which lies approximately south of Ełk and east of the regional capital Olsztyn. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 7,439 (7,556 in 2011). The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Gorczyce (german: Gorczitzen) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Prostki, within Ełk County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland. It lies approximately south-west of Prostki, south of Ełk, and east of the regional capital Olsztyn. It is a sołectwo of Prostki. History Before the 13th century, the region surrounding present day Gorczyce was inhabited by Baltic Prussians and was known as Galindia.
