Gmina Czyże
__NOTOC__ Gmina Czyże ( be, Гміна Чыжы) is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Hajnówka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Czyże, which lies approximately north-west of Hajnówka and south-east of the regional capital Białystok. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 2,528. It is one of five Polish/Belarusian language, Belarusian Bilingual communes in Poland, bilingual Gmina in Podlaskie Voivodeship regulated by the ''Act of 6 January 2005 on National and Ethnic Minorities and on the Regional Languages'', which permits certain gminas with significant linguistic minorities to introduce a second, auxiliary language to be used in official contexts alongside Polish language, Polish.Dz. The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta'').
