Gmina Biała Podlaska is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Biała Podlaska County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland. Its seat is the city of Biała Podlaska, although the city is not part of the territory of the gmina. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 12,299 (13,848 in 2014). Gmina
The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). The gmina has been the basic unit of territorial division in Poland since 1974, when it replaced the smaller gromada (cluster). Three or more gminas make up a higher level unit called powiat, except for those holding the status of a city with powiat rights. Kaliłów
Kaliłów is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Biała Podlaska, within Biała Podlaska County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland. It lies approximately north-east of Biała Podlaska and north-east of the regional capital Lublin. History Following the joint German-Soviet invasion of Poland, which started World War II in September 1939, the village was occupied by Germany. From May to October 1941, the Germans operated the Stalag 307 prisoner-of-war camp in the village. About 13,000 of the 140,000 POWs died there, and afterwards the camp was relocated to Dęblin. In January 1943, the Germans pacified the village, murdering 23 inhabitants.
