''Glyptoscelis'' is a genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Eumolpinae. There are 38 species of ''Glyptoscelis'' described from North, Central and South America. There are also three species of ''Glyptoscelis'' known from the West Indies, though they are wrongly placed in the genus. In addition, a single species was described from Hunan, China in 2021. According to BugGuide and ITIS, the genus is now placed in the tribe Eumolpini instead of Adoxini. Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat
Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat was a French entomologist, born 29 March 1799 in Paris and died 16 December 1884 in Paris. In government service in Paris, this amateur entomologist studied mainly beetles and birds. He published nearly 250 notes and papers and was the author of more than 2,000 species. He was one of the founders of the Société entomologique de France in 1832. On his death, his collection was dispersed. Doris Holmes Blake, ''née'' Doris Mildred Holmes (January 11, 1892 – December 3, 1978), was an American entomologist and scientific illustrator. She was an expert on chrysomelidae (leaf beetles). Life Doris Holmes was raised in a middle-class family in Stoughton, Massachusetts. She earned a B.A. from Boston University in 1913 and an M.A. in Zoology and Psychology from Radcliffe College in 1917. Edwin Van Dyke
Edwin Cooper Van Dyke (April 7, 1869 – September 28, 1952) was an American physician and entomologist. A leading authority on beetles (Coleoptera) of the Pacific Coast of North America, he was also an expert on insect pests of forests and forest products. He became a professor of entomology at the University of California, Berkeley and worked on the curatorial staff at the California Academy of Sciences for almost fifty years. Biography Van Dyke was born in Oakland, California on April 7, 1869. His father, Walter Van Dyke, came from New York and traveled cross-country to California during the gold rush in 1849. His mother, Rowena Cooper, came by ship to California in 1850. George Robert Crotch
George Robert Crotch (1842 – 16 June 1874) was a British entomologist and an authority on Coleoptera (beetles), particularly the ladybird beetles. He was the grandson of the English composer and organist William Crotch. Biography Born in Somerset, England, Crotch became interested in insects, especially Coleoptera, whilst an undergraduate at Cambridge University. He worked at the University Library, Cambridge. He collected insects in Europe and in the autumn of 1872, he left England on an entomological tour of the world, initially arriving at Philadelphia. In the spring of 1873 he arrived in California, where he collected insects until early July, when he traveled to British Columbia. In 1873 he accepted a position as assistant from Louis Agassiz at the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology with Hermann August Hagen.
