Gloss (comics)
Gloss is a superhero published by DC Comics created by Steve Engelhart and Joe Staton who first appeared in ''Millennium'' #2 (January 1988). Fictional character biography The creators of the Green Lantern Corps, the Guardians, had planned to create their successors, a race of new Guardians on Earth, so one of their number met a female alien called a Zamaron. The two channeled their powers into the " Millennium Project", gathering ten individuals together, teaching them about the nature of the cosmos, and endowing them with immortality and metahuman powers. One of these was a young woman from China named Xiang Po, to whom the Guardians gave the power to draw energy from the Earth's "Dragon Lines" (or ley lines). She became Gloss (and a redhead), and joined the other heroes the Guardians had made in the team named the New Guardians. Millennium (comics)
"Millennium" was a comic book crossover story line that ran through an eight-issue, self-titled, limited series and various other titles cover dated January and February 1988 by DC Comics. The limited series was published weekly, which was a departure for an American series. It was written by Steve Englehart, and with art by Joe Staton and Ian Gibson. Plot The story took place at a time when the Guardians of the Universe had left Earth's dimension along with their mates, the Zamarons. However, one Guardian, Herupa Hando Hu, and his Zamaron mate, Nadia Safir, traveled to Earth and announced to the world that they would select 10 persons who would become the new Guardians of the Universe, and give birth to a new race of immortals. They gathered Earth's superheroes and sent them to find the chosen persons, who came from various parts of the world. ''52'' is a weekly American comic book limited series published by DC Comics that debuted on May 10, 2006, one week after the conclusion of the ''Infinite Crisis'' miniseries. The series was written by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, and Mark Waid, with layouts by Keith Giffen. ''52'' also led into a few limited series spin-offs. ''52'' consists of 52 issues, published weekly for one year, each issue detailing an actual week chronicling the events that took place during the missing year after the end of ''Infinite Crisis''. Ley Lines
Ley lines () are straight alignments drawn between various historic structures and prominent landmarks. The idea was developed in early 20th-century Europe, with ley line believers arguing that these alignments were recognised by ancient societies that deliberately erected structures along them. Since the 1960s, members of the Earth Mysteries movement and other Western esotericism, esoteric traditions have commonly believed that such ley lines demarcate "Energy (esotericism), earth energies" and serve as guides for alien spacecraft. Archaeologists and scientists regard ley lines as an example of pseudoarchaeology and pseudoscience. The Great Ten (Shi Hao Xia) or (十豪侠) are a team of Chinese comic book superheroes in the DC Comics Universe, who are sponsored by the government of the People's Republic of China. Appearing in comics published by DC Comics, they were introduced in '' 52'' #6 (June 2006), and were created by Grant Morrison, J. G. Jones, and Joe Bennett. Several of the characters have a basis in Chinese mythology. Unlike conventional superhero monikers, their names are close to literal translations from the Chinese language. New 52
The New 52 is the 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic books. Following the conclusion of the " Flashpoint" crossover storyline, DC canceled all its existing titles and debuted 52 new series in September 2011. Among the renumbered series were ''Action Comics'' and ''Detective Comics'', which had retained their original numbering since the 1930s. The relaunch included changes to the publishing format; for example, print and digital comics began to be released on the same day. New titles were released to bring the number of ongoing monthly series to 52. Various changes were also made to DC's fictional universe to entice new readers, including changes to DC's internal continuity to make characters more modern and accessible.
