Glory Umunna
Glory Umunna (born Glory Chukwu ) is the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2009. She competed in Miss World 2009 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is Igbo people, Igbo from Abia State. Umunna is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka with a degree in Microbiology. She also has a Masters in Management and Information Systems from Cranfield, UK. Despite hailing from Eastern Nigeria, Umunna represented a Northern Nigeria state, Nassarawa, in a final held for the first time in Owerri. At twenty-three, Glory became queen, and speaks some French language, French as well as English and her native Igbo. Among Umunna's goals is working with a charity organisation which supports disadvantaged children in her country, and getting involved in the rehabilitation and renovation of children's wards in Nigerian hospitals. Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria – often abbreviated as MBGN – is a pageant organised by Silverbird Group with the main purpose of sending representatives to international competitions. Originally known as Miss Universe Nigeria, it was renamed Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria after news publishers ''Daily Times'' lost their license to send delegates from rival contest Miss Nigeria to Miss World. The current titleholder is event planner Ada Eme who represented Abia. History Former publisher Ben Murray-Bruce ventured into show business after his magazine ''Silverbird'' flopped. He took a loan of N200,000 from his father which he used to organise a number of successful concerts which saw artists like Shalamar and Kool and the Gang perform in Nigeria, after which he promoted a new pageant known as Miss Universe Nigeria in 1983 (Omololu Ojehomon was crowned winner but never competed in Miss Universe).
