Achille Glorieux
Achille Marie Joseph Glorieux (2 April 1910 – 27 September 1999) was a French prelate who held diplomatic posts of the Catholic Church. Biography Achille Marie Joseph Glorieux was born in Roubaix, France, on 2 April 1910, one of ten children born to Achille Glorieux (1883–1965), an industrial leader prominent in the Catholic social movement that promoted large families to fight underpopulation. He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1934. While working in Rome at the Secretariat of State, he was also the Vatican correspondent for the French daily ''La Croix'' in the 1930s. He fled Italy after the declaration of war between Italy and France in 1940 and continued his work from Limoges. He returned to Rome in 1945 and managed the French-language edition of ''L'Osservatore Romano''. Alphonse Joseph Glorieux
Alphonse Joseph Glorieux (February 1, 1844 – August 25, 1917) was a Belgian-born missionary and prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as the first bishop of the Diocese of Boise in Idaho from 1893 until his death in 1917. He previously served as vicar apostolic of the Territory of Idaho from 1885 to 1893. Biography Early life Alphonse Glorieux was born on February 1, 1844 in Dottignies, in the Belgian province of Hainaut, to Auguste and Lucy (née Vanderghinste) Glorieux. He graduated from Collège Saint-Amand in Kortrijk in 1863, then entered the American College of Louvain in Leuven to study for the priesthood, with the intent to do missionary work in the United States. Priesthood Glorieux was ordained a priest on August 17, 1867 by Cardinal Engelbert Sterckx in Mechelen.In October 1867, two months after his ordination, Glorieux left Belgium and arrived in Portland, Oregon, in December. Le Glorieux
Le Glorieux (18 February 1984 – 19 Aug 2010) was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse. In 1987 he achieved the extraordinary feat of winning three Group one races on three different continents when he won the Grosser Preis von Berlin in Europe, the Washington, D.C. International in North America and the Japan Cup in Asia. Trained by Robert Collet, and owned by German businessman, Werner Wolf, from his base at the Chantilly Racecourse, Le Glorieux made seven starts at age two, winning once and finishing second on three occasions. At age three, the colt won three races from a base in Germany and blossomed into an international star. Retired to stud, Le Glorieux's progeny have met with limited success in racing. Le Glorieux died at his owner Werner Wolf's Haras du Logis Saint-Germain in Normandy, France on 19 Aug 2010, at the age of 26.
