Gloria Pachón
Gloria Pachón de Galán (born June 22, 1935) is a Colombian politician and journalist. Between 1993 and 1995 she was the ambassador of Colombia in France during the government of César Gaviria and member of the executive board of UNESCO. Biography She is the daughter of journalist Álvaro Pachón de la Torre born on July 22, 1935, in a journalist family in Colombia. She is the widow of Luis Carlos Galán, with whom she had three children, Juan Manuel, Carlos Fernando and Claudio Mario. She is also the sister of former education minister Maruja Pachón. In the late 1960s, while working for the newspaper El Tiempo, she met Luis Carlos Galán, whom she married in 1970. Shortly before President Misael Pastrana Borrero appointed Luis Carlos Galán as ambassador to Italy, they had Juan Manuel, their first child. Cúcuta (), officially San José de Cúcuta, is a Colombian municipality, capital of the department of Norte de Santander and nucleus of the Metropolitan Area of Cúcuta. Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria (; ; 1 December 19492 December 1993) was a Colombian drug lord, narcoterrorist, and politician who was the founder and leader of the Medellín Cartel. Luis Carlos Galán
Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento (29 September 1943 – 18 August 1989) was a Colombian liberal politician and journalist who ran for the Presidency of Colombia on two occasions, the first time for the political movement New Liberalism that he founded in 1979. The movement was an offspring of the mainstream Colombian Liberal Party, and with mediation of former Liberal president Julio César Turbay Ayala, Galán returned to the Liberal party in 1989 and sought the nomination for the 1990 presidential election, but was assassinated before the vote took place. Galán declared himself an enemy of the drug cartels and the influence of the mafia in Colombian politics, in this case the main drug cartel being the Medellin Cartel led by Pablo Escobar and who unsuccessfully tried to become a member of the New Liberalism Movement in his bid to become a member of the Colombian House of Representatives.
