The Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in Upstate New York, anchored by the city of Glens Falls. It is considered to be a part of the greater Capital District. As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 128,942 (though a 2016 estimate placed the population at 126,367). West Glens Falls is a census-designated place (CDP) and hamlet in Warren County, New York, United States. The population was 6,721 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. West Glens Falls is a suburban community, lying west of the city of Glens Falls. It is located in the south-central part of the town of Queensbury. Geography The community is to the north of the Hudson River. Bolton is a town in Warren County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,117 at the 2000 census. Bolton is on the eastern border of the county. History The first settlements began ''circa'' 1792. The village of Bolton was formed from part of the town of Thurman in 1799. Bolton lost some of its territory as three new towns were created in the county. This village is named after Robert “Bob” Bolton, who moved there in 1788 with his wife Margaret. Whitehall is a village located in the town of Whitehall in Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village population was 2,614 in 2010. The village of Whitehall is located just south of the point where the Vermont border connects to the southern end of Lake Champlain. History The village was founded in 1759 as "Skenesborough" by Major Philip Skene, who built the barracks at Crown Point under Gen. Jeffrey Amherst. White Creek is a town in Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town population was 3,411 at the 2000 census. The town contains the White Creek Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Salem is a town in eastern Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town population was 2,702 at the 2000 census. The town of Salem contains a hamlet also named Salem, formerly an incorporated village. History Salem was first settled in 1761 by Joshua Conkey and James Turner, who as soldiers in the French and Indian War, passed through the territory. Lake George is a town in Warren County, New York, United States. The population was 3,578 at the 2000 census. The town is named after the lake, Lake George. The town surrounds the Village of Lake George. The town is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The first European to visit the lake was Father Isaac Jogues in August 1642. He was later captured by Mohawks, escaped, and returned home to France.
