Alexander Glenny
Alexander Thomas Glenny (18 September 1882 – 5 October 1965), was a British immunologist known particularly for his work on the prevention of diphtheria. He was born in Camberwell, London, England, educated at Alleyn's School, Dulwich and awarded a B.Sc. by the University of London in 1905. In 1899 he started working for the Wellcome Physiological Research Laboratories, then in Central London, becoming head of the immunology department in 1906. He worked on immunizations and antitoxins against diseases, including tetanus and diphtheria, and, later, chemical weapons. His scientific work focused on the mechanisms of antibody production and the prevention of diphtheria. In 1921 he and H. J. Südmersen discovered the primary and secondary immune response. In the same paper they also briefly described the properties of diphtheria toxoid, which had been discovered by Glenny in 1904, apparently by accident. Alice Russell Glenny
Alice Russell Glenny (1858–1924) was an American painter, sculptor, and graphic artist who lived and worked in Buffalo, New York. Glenny was a fixture of the thriving artistic scene in Buffalo in the early twentieth century. From 1893-1894 and 1903–1904, she served as president of the Buffalo Society of Artists. She studied under top teachers, such as William Merritt Chase and Gustav Boulanger, in both the United States and France, and was considered in her time to be one of the city's top artists. Today, Glenny is best remembered for her Art Nouveau posters and magazine illustrations. Her posters were featured prominently in Buffalo's Pan-American Exposition of 1901, famous for being the location of the shooting of President William McKinley. She also regularly contributed illustrations to the Buffalo-Courier Express, one of the major newspapers in Buffalo at the time. Michael Valentine Guybon Glenny (26 September 1927, London – 1 August 1990, Moscow) was a British lecturer in Russian studies and a translator of Russian literature into English. Life Glenny was born on 26 September 1927 in London, the only child of Arthur Glenny, an RAF officer, and Avice Noel (née Boyes), a South African ambulance driver in the Second World War. After preparatory school in Suffolk, he went to Radley College and Christ Church, Oxford. He obtained a second-class degree in Russian and French, graduating in 1951. Glenny SofÃa Cepeda Gabriel (born 13 April 1981) is a Dominican former tennis player. A native of San Pedro de MacorÃs, Cepeda earned ITA All-American honours as a collegiate tennis player for Shorter University, where she also competed on the volleyball team. She was a 2011 inductee to the Shorter University Athletic Hall of Fame, for her contributions to both sports. Cepeda was a regular member of the Dominican Republic Fed Cup team from 1996 to 2002, later playing a further year in 2014. She helped her side qualify for Group I of the Americas Zone in 2000 and appeared in a total of 34 ties during her career. Her 21 wins in doubles rubbers set a team record. Glennys Reynolds Farrar (born 1946) is a professor of physics at New York University who specializes in particle physics, cosmology and the study of dark matter. She has made several significant contributions to the fields of hadron and dark matter phenomenology, helping to develop the working "Standard Cosmological Model". Farrar is a figure in developing many modern particle-search techniques, achieving numerous recognitions including as the Guggenheim Fellowship for Natural Sciences and Sloan Fellowship. The Glenny Drive Apartments (also known as Kensington Heights or Kensington Towers) were a Buffalo, New York, public housing project built during the expansion of public housing in the United States in the 1950s. History The complex was finished in 1958 on the site of a former quarry, and consisted of six seven-story brick apartment buildings, each containing approximately 67 units. The housing complex was spread across 12 acres and located next to the Kensington Expressway (New York State Route 33) and behind Erie County Medical Center. The site was built by New York State using bonds and managed & maintained by the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority. During the construction of the Kensington Expressway, any family displaced was given priority in the complex.
