Ross Glendinning
Ross William Glendinning (born 17 September 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the East Perth Football Club in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL) and for the North Melbourne Football Club and the West Coast Eagles in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Solidly built but agile and skilful in equal measure, Glendinning was considered one of the finest key-position players of his era. Inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2000, he was West Coast's inaugural captain. The Ross Glendinning Medal is named in his honour and is awarded to the player judged best afield in the Western Australian derby between West Coast and Fremantle each AFL season. Paul Glendinning is a professor of Applied Mathematics, in the School of Mathematics at the University of Manchester who is known for his work on dynamical systems, specifically models of the time-evolution of complex mathematical or physical processes. His main areas of research are bifurcation theory (particularly global bifurcations); synchronization and blowout bifurcations; low-dimensional maps; and quasi-periodically forced systems. Victoria Glendinning (''née'' Seebohm; born 23 April 1937) is a British biographer, critic, broadcaster and novelist. She is an Honorary Vice-President of English PEN and Vice-President of the Royal Society of Literature. She won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and the Whitbread Prize for biography. Early life and education She was born in Sheffield to a Quaker family. Her father was the banker Frederic Seebohm (created a life peer as Baron Seebohm in April 1972), while her great-grandfather was the economic historian, also called Frederic Seebohm. Her mother was clever, "but she never did anything with it, except wait for my father to come home". Her sister is Caroline Seebohm, the American biographer. Will Glendinning is a former politician in Northern Ireland. He was born in Portadown, the brother of Robin, and a great-grandchild of Robert Glendinning. Glendinning attended Rockport School in Holywood, Co Down. Glendinning joined the Ulster Defence Regiment in the early 1970s and served in Armagh. In 1977, he was elected as an Alliance Party of Northern Ireland (APNI) councillor for Belfast Area F, which covered the Lower Falls, Donegall Road and Markets areas. He held his seat in 1981, and was also narrowly elected at the 1982 Northern Ireland Assembly election for West Belfast. "Area F" was abolished in 1985 but Glendinning won a council seat in the Lower Falls Electoral Area, with his wife Pip succeeding in gaining a seat for APNI in the adjacent Upper Falls Area. He and his wife both resigned their council seats in 1987 due to the birth of their daughter. James Glendinning (June 2, 1849 – November 26, 1929) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Ontario North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Conservative member from 1890 to 1894. He was born in Brock Township, Canada West in 1849 and grew up there. In 1871, he married Elizabeth Doble. Glendinning served on the township council for Brock and was reeve from 1885 to 1890.
