Glen Ernest Smith (born 21 May 1972) is a male retired English discus thrower. Athletics career Smith was a two-time competitor at the World Championships in Athletics (1997 and 1999). He represented England, at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. and represented England, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A third consecutive appearance at the Games ensued at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. His personal best throw is 65.11 metres, achieved in July 1999 in Barking. Birkenhead
Birkenhead (; cy, Penbedw) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, Merseyside, England; historically, it was part of Cheshire until 1974. The town is on the Wirral Peninsula, along the south bank of the River Mersey, opposite Liverpool. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 88,818. The men's discus throw was an event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. There were 40 competitors from 30 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The final was held on July 31, 1996. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games, the athletics event were held in Victoria, BC, Canada, at the Centennial Stadium on the grounds of the University of Victoria.
