Glen M. Bagnell
Glen Merlyn Bagnell (born February 15, 1936) is a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Dartmouth North in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1970 to 1978. He is a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Bagnell was born in Truro, Nova Scotia. He attended Acadia University and Dalhousie University and was a pharmacist. He married Shirley Joan Smith in 1957. Bagnell first attempted to enter provincial politics in a November 1968 by-election in Dartmouth North, but was defeated by Progressive Conservative Gerald Wambolt by 76 votes. He ran again in the 1970 election, and defeated Wambolt by almost 1,800 votes. Bagnell was re-elected in the 1974 election. Bagnell served in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Minister of Mines, Minister of Environment, Minister of Tourism, Minister of Consumer Affairs, and Minister of Municipal Affairs. Truro, Nova Scotia
Truro (Mi'kmaq: ''Wagobagitik''; Scottish Gaelic: ''Truru'') is a town in central Nova Scotia, Canada. Truro is the shire town of Colchester County and is located on the south side of the Salmon River floodplain, close to the river's mouth at the eastern end of Cobequid Bay. History The area has been home to the Mi'kmaq people for several centuries. The Mi'kmaq name for the Truro area, "Wagobagitik" means "end of the water's flow". Mi'kmaq people continue to live in the area at the Millbrook and Truro reserves of the Millbrook – We’kopekwitk band. Acadian settlers came to this area in the early 1700s. The Mi'kmaq name for the Truro area was shortened by the settlers to "Cobequid", and the bay to the west of the town is still named Cobequid Bay. Acadia (french: link=no, Acadie) was a colony of New France in northeastern North America which included parts of what are now the Maritime provinces, the Gaspé Peninsula and Maine to the Kennebec River. During much of the 17th and early 18th centuries, Norridgewock on the Kennebec River and Castine at the end of the Penobscot River were the southernmost settlements of Acadia. The French government specified land bordering the Atlantic coast, roughly between the 40th and 46th parallels. It was eventually divided into British colonies. Executive Council Of Nova Scotia
The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Most cabinet ministers are the head of a ministry, but this is not always the case.
