Glen Kaiser
Glenn Kaiser (born January 21, 1953) is a Chicago-based Christian blues musician, singer, songwriter and pastor. He was the leader of Resurrection Band and is currently the leader of The Glenn Kaiser Band. Personal life Childhood Kaiser's older brother and sister left the house while he was still young and his parents divorced when he was nine years old. Kaiser was active in Milwaukee's music scene, starting at the age of twelve, and was a member of more than twelve bands, leading two, before reaching nineteen years of age. Glenn Kaiser was raised as a nominal Lutheran and used drugs before he became a born-again Christian, around the time of his eighteenth birthday. He was quoted as saying: "Nothing else gave me so much happiness or sense of purpose until I asked Jesus Christ to come into my heart and become absolute Lord of my life." JPUSA Kaiser joined and got involved in ''The USA Traveling Team'' of Jesus People Milwaukee (later renamed ''Jesus People USA', where he me ...

Cornerstone Festival
Cornerstone Festival was a Christian music festival put on by Jesus People USA and held annually around July 4 near Bushnell, Illinois, drawing some 20,000 attendees each year. History From 1984 to 1990, Cornerstone was held at the Lake County Fairgrounds near Grayslake, Illinois. In 1991, Cornerstone moved near the town of Bushnell (outside Macomb) where the organizers of the festival purchased a large piece of land, which is now called "Cornerstone Farm". Reach Of Love
Resurrection Band, also known as Rez Band or REZ, was a Christian rock band formed in 1972. They were part of the Jesus People USA Christian community in Chicago and most of its members have continued in that community to this day. Known for their blend of blues-rock and hard rock, Resurrection Band is credited as one of the forerunners of the Christian metal genre. ''Christianity Today'' called them "the most influential band in Christian music history." Following their debut in 1978, the band's greatest popularity was during the early 1980s, but later in the decade they received some crossover success when they had two music videos featured on MTV. Led by the husband-and-wife team of Glenn and Wendi Kaiser, the band sought to evangelize using Christian rock, and addressed a variety of social ills in the lyrics of their music. While the group is officially disbanded, they played several one-off dates at the now defunct Cornerstone Festival, which members of the band helpe ...

Civil Rites
''Civil Rites'' is the tenth studio album, by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band (known at this point as "REZ"), released in 1991. Recording history By now, REZ had perfected their recent formula of blues-based rock, as evidenced in songs like "Footprints" and "In My Room", interspersed with AC/DC-inspired heavy metal numbers like the album's opener, "Lovespeak", as well as "Comatose". Co-lead singer Wendi Kaiser is given more to do on this record, which is good or bad depending on the listener's opinion of her vocal style. Along with "Comatose" and "Death Machine," she duets with her husband Glenn Kaiser on the uptempo blues number "Hotfootin'" and closes out the album with a cover of the classic Jefferson Airplane song, " Somebody to Love". Given that her voice has often been compared to Grace Slick, it's an appropriate choice. ''Civil Rites'' is also more forcefully evangelical than REZ' two prior releases. The band returns to issues of importance to its younger ...

Innocent Blood (album)
''Innocent Blood'' is the ninth studio album, by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band (known at this point as "Rez"), released in 1989. Background The hard rock on ''Innocent Blood'' is even more blues-based than Rez' previous outing, as evidenced by "Child of the Blues", "Great God in Heaven", and the brief opening track, "Rooster Crow", an acoustic blues number which would be fleshed out into a complete song many years later for the Glenn Kaiser Band's 2001 album, ''Carolina Moon''. The remainder of the album edges closer to heavy metal, as evidenced by "Altar of Pain" and "80,000 Underground". The band also covers the song "Bargain", originally recorded by The Who, which became a No. 1 hit on Christian rock radio. In addition, "Where Roses Grow" became a concert favorite among long-time Rez fans. Given the blues-oriented musical direction of ''Innocent Blood'', the lyrics concern themselves primarily with issues of poverty ("Child of the Blues"), slavery ("80,00 ...

Silence Screams
''Silence Screams'' is the eighth studio album, by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band (known at this point as REZ), released in 1988. Recording history After the longest break between studio albums, REZ returned with a blues-based hard rock/metal sound (closer to their 1978 release '' Awaiting Your Reply'') that would set the pattern for all future releases, and was also indicative of the musical direction lead singer Glenn Kaiser would take in his solo career. The album is highlighted by a cover of Blind Faith's "Presence of the Lord," which was the first in a string of cover tunes that REZ would include on almost every successive release. As indicated by the unsettling album cover art, the lyrics deal with some very dark themes by focusing on the plight of the disenfranchised, whether they be victims of war ("Someone Sleeps"), greed ("Waitin' on Sundown") or racial profiling ("Three Seconds"). "Light/Light" is another of the album's highlights, and proved a popular ...

Hostage (Rez Band Album)
''Hostage'' is the sixth studio album, from American Christian rock band Resurrection Band (known at this time as "Rez Band"), released in late 1984. Recording history ''Hostage'' was a radical departure into keyboard-driven new wave stylings which dominate the record, and this is due in large part to the fact that bassist and keyboardist Jim Denton took over much of the songwriting. Although the lead-off track, "S.O.S.", was popular on Christian radio, long-time Rez Band fans were extremely divided over the band's new musical direction, especially with strange sonic experiments like "Armageddon Appetite". At the same time, "Attention" and "Crimes" are typical Rez Band hard rock efforts, which indicated to surprised listeners at the time that the band hadn't completely abandoned the sound for which they had become known. Besides, the lyrical themes of war, inner-city violence (of which the band was intimately familiar) and the spiritual and moral confusion of youth are once aga ...

Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore
''Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore'' is the fourth album by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band, released in 1981. Recording history Resurrection Band's move toward a more pop-influenced hard rock sound is solidified on this release, which in many ways is a continuation of the lyrical themes and musical sounds first expressed on ''Colours''. A small hint of the band's future incorporation of new wave keyboard stylings can also be heard on the closing track, "Lovin' You." Once again, social issues (" Elevator Muzik" humorously trashes American materialism, "The Chair" addresses the plight of paraplegics, and the title track deals with the destructive effects of divorce on children), spiritual struggles ("The Crossing," "Alienated" and "Can't Do It on My Own") and evangelistic challenges to the listener ("First Degree Apathy" and "Stark/Spare") dominate the songs on the record. Along with ''Colours'' and '' Awaiting Your Reply'', ''Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore'' is c ...

Colours (Resurrection Band Album)
''Colours'' is the third full-length album by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band, released in 1980. Recording history ''Colours'' was Resurrection Band's first release for Christian label Light Records, which had up to this time been known as the primary record label for Andraé Crouch and similar gospel artists. ''Colours'' is also considered by some music critics to be one of the band's defining works. Resurrection Band embraced a more radio-friendly rock and metal sound with this album, which is a mix of personal reflections on God's sovereignty and love ("Autograph," "Amazing" and the title track), the harsh life of the inner city ("N.Y.C.", "Beggar in the Alleyway"), and the need for personal redemption ("City Streets", "The Struggle"). "American Dream" is significant for being the first of many songs that Resurrection Band would write about the moral rot at the center of America's political and media culture, indicating a more progressive political worldview ...

Rainbow's End (album)
''Rainbow's End'' is the second full-length album by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band, released in 1979. Recording history Resurrection Band continues in its Led Zeppelin-inspired rock vein with this record. This release is significant for the inclusion of "Afrikaans," the first anti-apartheid song ever released by an American rock band, one full year before Peter Gabriel brought the issue to listeners' attention with "Biko." Although the band was greatly pleased with this album, that sentiment was not shared by the record label, and ''Rainbow's End'' would be the band's last release for Star Song Records. Track listing The title track was never played live until Resurrection Band's final concert at the Cornerstone Festival in 2000. Personnel * Glenn Kaiser – lead and background vocals, electric guitars * Wendi Kaiser – lead and background vocals * Stu Heiss – electric and acoustic guitars, piano, organ, Moog synthesizer, "Heiss Box" guitar synthesize ...

Awaiting Your Reply
''Awaiting Your Reply'' is the debut album by American Christian rock band Resurrection Band, released in 1978. Recording history The album was recorded for only $8000 US over a period of two weeks in marathon all-night sessions ending on Easter Sunday morning.''Full Circle Jesus Music podcast: Episode 98. http://www.fullcirclejesusmusic.com/playlist/ A groundbreaking release by Christian music standards at the time, the album caused considerable controversy among Christian music critics, many of whom found fault with controversial themes and its heavy rock sounds, which are clearly influenced by Led Zeppelin. No Christian record label in the United States or Great Britain would agree to distribute the album. The independent label, Star Song Records finally signed Resurrection Band to a record deal. The label soon became one of the largest independents in contemporary Christian music. Many Christian bookstores sold the album from behind the counter, as the cover art was con ...
