Glasbury (electoral Ward)
Glasbury is the name of an electoral wards in central Powys, Wales. It covers the community of Glasbury (which contains part of the village of the same name) as well as the neighbouring communities of Clyro and Painscastle. The ward elects a county councillor to Powys County Council. According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 2,299. County councillors Independent councillor Margaret Morris represented the ward on Powys County Council until May 2012, when the seat was won by Christopher Davies for the Welsh Conservative Party. Cllr Davies stood down in 2015 after being elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire. A by-election was subsequently held in Glasbury on 13 August 2015, resulting in the new Conservative candidate being beaten by the Liberal Democrat candidate, James Gibson-Watt. Powys (; ) is a county and preserved county in Wales. It is named after the Kingdom of Powys which was a Welsh successor state, petty kingdom and principality that emerged during the Middle Ages following the end of Roman rule in Britain. 2017 Powys County Council Election
The fifth election to the Powys County Council since local government reorganization in Wales in 1995 was held on 4 May 2017, along with other local government elections. It was preceded by the 2012 election and will be followed by the 2022 election. Results overview Sixteen seats were uncontested and, in another seat, Yscir, no one initially stood at all for the seat (the only ward in Wales where this happened). Hay-on-Wye
Hay-on-Wye ( cy, Y Gelli Gandryll), simply known locally as "Hay" ( cy, Y Gelli), is a market town and community in Powys, Wales; it was historically in the county of Brecknockshire. With over twenty bookshops, it is often described as "the town of books"; it is both the ''National Book Town of Wales'' and the site of the annual Hay Festival. The population of the town in 1841 was 1,455; this had grown to 1,680 by 1901. The town has grown little since, with 2018 estimates at 1,900. The built-up area includes Cusop across the border in England and has a population of around 2,000. Location The town lies on the south-east bank of the River Wye and is within the north-easternmost tip of the Brecon Beacons National Park, just north of the Black Mountains. Brecon and Radnorshire ( cy, Brycheiniog a Sir Faesyfed) is a county constituency in Wales of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Created in 1918, it elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. The constituency is represented by Fay Jones of the Conservative Party, who defeated incumbent Jane Dodds of the Liberal Democrats at the 2019 general election. Chris Davies (Conservative Politician)
Christopher Paul Davies (born 18 August 1967) is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the Conservative Party. Davies won the seat in the 2015 general election when he defeated incumbent Liberal Democrat Roger Williams. On 22 March 2019, he pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud concerning parliamentary expenses; on 21 June he was removed from office by a recall petition. Powys County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Powys) is the local authority for Powys, one of the administrative areas of Wales. The County Hall is in Llandrindod Wells. History The county of Powys was created on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, covering the area of the three administrative counties of Brecknockshire, Montgomeryshire, and Radnorshire, which were abolished at the same time.
