Fârdea
Fârdea ( hu, Ferde; german: Ferden) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of seven villages: Drăgșinești, Fârdea (commune seat), Gladna Montană, Gladna Română, Hăuzești, Mâtnicu Mic and Zolt. Geography Fârdea is located in the eastern extremity of Timiș County, at the foot of Poiana Ruscă Mountains. The relief has the appearance of a huge amphitheater descending from the edges of the commune to the central depression valleys with some steep hills in the southeast and softer ones in the northwest. History Fârdea was first mentioned in a Hungarian diploma in 1361. It was one of the most important medieval settlements in Banat, where a Vlach district has existed since ancient times. Lake Surduc
Lake Surduc ( ro, Lacul Surduc) is a dammed reservoir in the northwestern part of Poiana Ruscă Mountains. It is located in Timiș County, on the administrative territory of Fârdea. It got its name from the nearby village of Surducu Mic. The lake largely ensures the drinking water supply of Timișoara and the surrounding area and protects it from flooding. As the water of the lake does not freeze, thousands of waterfowl take shelter here during the winter, the lake being a recreation area for fishermen, hunters and tourists. Lake Surduc has been an IUCN Category IV protected area since 2000. Description The construction of the dam began in 1972, and the accumulation in 1976. In 1977 it reached almost 25 million m3 of water. The second stage began in 1981, being designed for the accumulation of a water volume of 51.08 million m3. Traian Vuia, Timiș
Traian Vuia (until 1950 Bujor; hu, Bozsor) is a commune in Timiș County, Romania. It is composed of six villages: Jupani, Săceni, Sudriaș (commune seat), Surducu Mic, Susani and Traian Vuia. It was the birthplace of inventor and aviator Traian Vuia (1872–1950). It was renamed to commemorate him after his death. Name History The first recorded mention of Bujor dates from 1364. The locality had a high importance in the Middle Ages, being the center of a Vlach district. In 1453 this district had a knyaz, Dionysius, and was donated by King Ladislaus V to John Hunyadi. In 1596 the Bujor District was part of Hunyad County. Within its borders there was at that time the village of Baia, and a little further the village of Chitești, both disappeared.
