Clarence James Glacken (1909 – August 20, 1989) was Professor of Geography at the University of California, Berkeley. He was known for a 1967 magnum opus, ''Traces on the Rhodian Shore'', that demonstrated how perceptions of the natural environment shaped the course of human events over millennia. He is recognised as a key contributor to the field of environmental history. Louis M. Glackens (1866–1933) was an American illustrator, animator, and cartoonist, commonly credited as L. M. Glackens. He was the brother of Ashcan School painter and illustrator William Glackens. Life Glackens was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the 1890s he began to work for '' Puck'', a magazine known for its political and social satire, where his humorous depictions of different ethnic groups reflected the melting pot of New York City at that time. Scotty Glacken
Edward Scott Glacken (July 28, 1944 – December 27, 2006) was an American football quarterback and coach. He played college football at Duke University. In 1963, Glacken threw for a school-record 12 touchdown passes. Glacken finished his Duke career with 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns, helping the Blue Devils to a 15–13–2 record during his final three years as a player. Glacken played two seasons with the Denver Broncos, leading them to a 1967 exhibition victory over the Detroit Lions, the first time an American Football League (AFL) club defeated a team from the rival National Football League (NFL). Glacken would begin a two-decade long coaching career in 1970, taking the head coaching position at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., helping to return the Hoyas to NCAA intercollegiate competition after a number of years as a club team. William Glackens
William James Glackens (March 13, 1870 – May 22, 1938) was an American realist painter and one of the founders of the Ashcan School, which rejected the formal boundaries of artistic beauty laid-down by the conservative National Academy of Design. He is also known for his work in helping Albert C. Barnes to acquire the European paintings that form the nucleus of the famed Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. His dark-hued, vibrantly painted street scenes and depictions of daily life in pre-WW I New York and Paris first established his reputation as a major artist. His later work was brighter in tone and showed the strong influence of Renoir. During much of his career as a painter, Glackens also worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines in Philadelphia and New York City.
