Gjirokastër District
Gjirokastër District () was one of the 36 districts of Albania, which were dissolved in July 2000 and replaced by 12 counties. It had a population of 55,991 in 2001, and an area of . It contained a large Greek ethnic minority. It is in the south of the country, and its capital was the city of Gjirokastër. Its territory is now part of Gjirokastër County: the municipalities of Gjirokastër, Dropull and Libohovë. Gjirokastër
Gjirokastër (, sq-definite, Gjirokastra) is a city in the Republic of Albania and the seat of Gjirokastër County and Gjirokastër Municipality. It is located in a valley between the Gjerë mountains and the Drino, at 300 metres above sea level. Its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, described as "a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, built by farmers of large estate". The city is overlooked by Gjirokastër Fortress, where the Gjirokastër National Folklore Festival is held every five years. It is the birthplace of former Albanian communist leader Enver Hoxha, and author Ismail Kadare. The city appears in the historical record dating back in 1336 by its Greek name, gkm, Αργυρόκαστρο, Argyrókastro, label=none, as part of the Byzantine Empire. A golem ( ; he, , gōlem) is an animated, anthropomorphic being in Jewish folklore, which is entirely created from inanimate matter, usually clay or mud. Frashtan
Frashtan (Greek: Φράστανη) is a settlement in the former Dropull i Poshtëm municipality, Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Dropull. It is within the larger Dropull region. The settlement lies at the foot of Mali i Gjerë ( el, Πλατυβουνίου, translit=Platyvouniou) and is bordered to the south by Lugar and to the north by Goricë. East of the village is Glinë. Demographics In the Ottoman register of 1520 for the Sanjak of Avlona, the village was attested as a timar under the authority of Ali, the son of Mehmed. The village had a total of 95 households and the anthroponymy attested almost entirely belonged to the Albanian onomastic sphere, characterised by personal names such as ''Bardh'', ''Deda'', ''Gjin'', ''Gjon'', ''Kola'', ''Leka'' and others. Erind is a village in the Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. It belongs to the former Lunxhëri (municipality), Lunxhëri municipality and is part of the wider Lunxhëri region. Derviçan
Derviçan ( sq-definite, Derviçani; gr, Δερβιτσάνη, ''Dervitsani'', also known as Dervician) is a settlement in the former Dropull i Poshtëm municipality, Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Dropull. It is within the larger Dropull region. The village is inhabited solely by Greeks. In 1991, the political organization Omonoia was founded in Dervican, by representatives of the Greek national minority. Bularat ( sq-definite, Bularati; el, Βουλιαράτες; romanized ''Vouliarátes'') is a village in Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality of Dropull. It is inhabited solely by Greeks. It is located just 6 km away from the Greek-Albanian border. Name Its name contains the Albanian suffix -at, widely used to form toponyms from personal names and surnames.
