Christianity In Albania
Christianity in Albania was established throughout the country in 325 AD. From 1100 AD, the Byzantine Empire carried out Church missions in the area. In relation to the increasing influence of Venice, the Franciscans started to settle down in the area in the 13th century. From the 15th century to the 19th century, under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, Christianity was replaced by Islam as the majority religion in Albania during the Ottoman Empire. The Albanian government, as per the disputed 2011 population census, gives the percentages of religious affiliations with only 58% Muslim, 10% Catholic, 7% Orthodox and 15% atheist or nonreligious since the fall of Communism in 1991, yet the 2011 census did not get most of the population due to poor counting of the population and the inability to reach most citizens. Saint George
Saint George (Greek: Γεώργιος (Geórgios), Latin: Georgius, Arabic: القديس جرجس; died 23 April 303), also George of Lydda, was a Christian who is venerated as a saint in Christianity. According to tradition he was a soldier in the Roman army. Saint George was a soldier of Cappadocian Greek origin and member of the Praetorian Guard for Roman emperor Diocletian, who was sentenced to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith. He became one of the most venerated saints and megalomartyrs in Christianity, and he has been especially venerated as a military saint since the Crusades. Andromaqi Gjergji (20 May 1928 – 8 July 2015) was an Albanian ethnologist who was a specialist in Albanian costumes and dress. Life Gjergji was born in Korçë in 1928. She studied history and philology at the Albanian capital of Tirana. She has published widely about Albanian culture. She became a professor at the Institute of Folk Culture in 1993. Dodë Gjergji (born 16 January 1963) is a Kosovan prelate of the Catholic Church. Since 2006, he serves as Apostolic Administrator of Prizern. In 2018, when the apostolic administration was elevated to the status of the diocese, he became the first diocesan bishop. Dodë Gjergji was born in Stublla near Viti, SFR Yugoslavia. Helidon Gjergji
Helidon Gjergji (born 1970 in Shkodër, Albania) is a contemporary artist who works in various media. Life Helidon Gjergji was born in Shkodër and raised in Tirana, Albania, where he studied art and earned a BFA from the Academy of Arts in Tirana. After Albania's borders opened in 1991, he moved to Italy, where he studied visual arts further, obtained a degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, Italy, and travelled across Italy and Europe. In 1997, he moved to Chicago, where he earned an MFA in Art Theory and Practice from Northwestern University, Chicago, and had his first American exhibitions. Gjergji Dëma (born 7 August 1971) is a retired Albanian international football player. Club career Dema spent his Albanian career with Flamurtari in the 1980s and 1990s, winning a league title in a team featuring fellow international players Eqerem Memushi, Kreshnik Çipi, Rrapo Taho, Sokol Kushta and Agim Bubeqi. Gjergji Muzaka
Gjergji Muzaka (born 26 September 1984) is an Albanian former professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. A product of Partizani Tirana academy, Muzaka begun his career as a talented youth player, which prompted Paris Saint-Germain to sign him in 2000. His spell in France was short-lived, however, as he returned at Partizani one year later and commenced his professional career as 17-year-old. Muzaka played for eight years for ''The Red Bulls'', notably winning the Albanian Cup title and also having a brief spell in Greece with Iraklis Thessaloniki F.C., Iraklis as a loanee in 2004. In 2008, he switched clubs, joining Partizani's fierce rivals, KF Tirana.
