Giusto Gervasutti
Giusto Gervasutti (17 April 1909 – 16 September 1946) was an Italian mountain climber, Alpini officer and skier. Biography Gervasutti, also known as "Il Fortissimo" ("the strongest"), was born in Cervignano del Friuli. He started climbing at the age of 16 years. In 1931, he moved to Turin to study at the local university. Together with other well known climbers of the time he climbed the most difficult and sought-after faces in the Western Alps. His first notable success was the first repetition of Karl Brendelet's and Hermann Schaller's difficult climb on the south ridge route of the Aiguille Noire de Peuterey one year after them. Further he completed some first ascents of reliefs in the Dauphiné Alps, for example the North West of the Pic d'Olan and the North West of the Ailefroide. Cervignano Del Friuli
Cervignano del Friuli ( fur, Çarvignan or locally , lat, Cervenianum) is a ''comune'' in the province of Udine, Italy. It is the most important town of Bassa Friulana. It lies at about from the Laguna di Grado and at about from the Adriatic Sea; from the point of view of viability, its position is peculiar since it lies at the junction of the SS14, linking Venice to Trieste, and the SS352, linking Udine to Grado. Paula Wiesinger
Paula (Paola) Rosa Wiesinger later Steger (27 February 1907 – 12 June 2001) was a pioneering Italian alpine skier and mountain climber who competed at one edition of Winter Olympics and three editions of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships (1932, 1933, 1934, 1936). Biography Wiesinger was born in Bolzano. She won the 1932 women's Downhill world championship in Cortina d'Ampezzo, and competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics, finishing 16th in the alpine skiing combined event. She married Hans Steger. In 1935 Wiesinger was invited to view the Trofeo Mezzalama, a competition that was only intended for male ski mountaineers. Due to an injury leave of Giusto Gervasutti, she took his military uniform, covered her face with sunglasses and his cap, and took part instead of him, but the cheat was discovered at a check point of the race.
