Giuseppe Primavera
Giuseppe Primavera ( 30 October 1917 – 4 January 1998) was an Italian chess player, Italian Chess Championship medalist (1948, 1953, 1954, 1970). Biography Giuseppe Primavera won four medals in Italian Chess Championships: two silver (1948 - after lost additional match Vincenzo Castaldi, 1970) and two bronze (1953, 1954) medals. He six times won Italian Team Chess Championships: three times with the team of the Roman Academy of Chess (1959, 1971, 1973) and three times with the team of municipal employees of Rome (1963, 1964, 1966). In 1953, Giuseppe Primavera shared 1st-2nd place with Anthony Santasiere in the International Chess Tournament in Milan. He was participant in strong international chess tournaments in Venice (1948, 1950). The Clare Benedict Cup was a chess tournament for national teams from Western and Northern Europe, which took place 23 times from 1953 to 1979. Overview and History Foundation Clare Benedict (1871–1961), author and patron, was originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but moved to Switzerland in 1945, where she founded the tournament. She was a distant relative of author James Fenimore Cooper. The 19th Chess Olympiad (german: Die 19. Schacholympiade), comprising an open team tournament as well as the annual FIDE congress, took place between September 5–27, 1970, in Siegen, West Germany. The Soviet team with six Grandmasters, led by world champion Boris Spassky, lived up to expectations and won their tenth consecutive gold medal, although only by a single point, with Hungary and Yugoslavia taking the silver and bronze, respectively. Unfortunately, space constraints and FIDE's intended model format meant that only 60 could be accommodated.
