Giuseppe Faccioli
Giuseppe Faccioli (c. 1877 – January 13, 1934) was an electrical engineer, noted for his work in artificial lighting and for creating currents using potentials of 2,000,000 volts. He attended the Royal Polytechnic Institute of Milan, graduating in 1899 and moving to the US in 1904, where he worked for the New York Edison Company, Interborough, the Crocker Wheeler Company, and Stanley Laboratories, which was absorbed by the General Electric Company in 1908. He worked there, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, for the remainder of his career, retiring in 1930 as chief engineer. In 1923, working with F.W. Peak Jr., and W.S. Moody, he demonstrated electric arcs created by potentials of 2,000,000 volts. Interborough Rapid Transit Company
The Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) was the private operator of New York City's original underground subway line that opened in 1904, as well as earlier elevated railways and additional rapid transit lines in New York City. The IRT was purchased by the city in June 1940, along with the younger BMT and IND systems, to form the modern New York City Subway. The former IRT lines (the numbered routes in the current subway system) are now the A Division or IRT Division of the Subway. General Electric Company
The General Electric Company (GEC) was a major British industrial conglomerate involved in consumer and defence electronics, communications, and engineering. IEEE Lamme Medal
The initially called AIEE Lamme Medal was established in 1924 by the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) to recognize members for 'meritorious achievement in the development of electrical apparatus or machinery.' The medal was named in recognition of Benjamin G. Lamme, Westinghouse' chief engineer, who amongst others was responsible for the construction of the Niagara Falls generators. The medal, established in accordance with Lamme's will, bears the inscription "The engineer views hopefully the hitherto unattainable." The medal continued to be awarded as the IEEE Lamme Medal by the board of directors of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), after the AIEE organization merged into the IEEE in 1963.
