Giuseppe Berto
Giuseppe Berto (27 December 1914 – 1 November 1978) was an Italian writer and screenwriter. He is mostly known for his novels ''Il cielo è rosso'' (''The Sky Is Red'') and ''Il male oscuro''. He was a prisoner at Camp Hereford from 1943 to 1946. Mogliano Veneto ( vec, Mogian ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Treviso, Veneto, northern Italy, located halfway between Mestre (Venice) and Treviso. Culture Mogliano is well known for the Medieval festival, which takes place in September of every year, as well as for the Christmas market which takes place from 1–10 December of every year with market stalls being set up in Piazza Pio X by cottage industries from as far away as Perugia. Transport Mogliano is cut in two by a busy street, known as ''Terraglio'', a historical road linking Treviso and Mestre/Venice. Viareggio Prize Winners
Viareggio () is a city and ''comune'' in northern Tuscany, Italy, on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. With a population of over 62,000, it is the second largest city within the province of Lucca, after Lucca. Camp Hereford
Camp Hereford, the Hereford Internment Camp, or the Hereford Military Reservation and Reception Center was an American prisoner-of-war camp that housed Italian prisoners during World War II. The camp was located about south of Hereford, Texas, and was the second largest prisoner-of-war camp in the United States, capable of housing nearly 6,000 prisoners as well as 750 American military personnel. It was constructed in 1942 and began housing inmates in 1943. By February 1946 all prisoners of war had been repatriated and the camp was placed on the surplus list. History Construction In June 1942, the War Department authorized the building of Camp Hereford on a section of land along the border of Castro and Deaf Smith counties.
