Giulio Pozzi
Giulio Pozzi is an Italian physicist. His research activity was mainly devoted to the development of electron microscopy techniques applied to the study of magnetic and electric fields. Together with Pier Giorgio Merli and Gian Franco Missiroli, he performed a version of the double slit experiment with single electrons. Born in Riva del Garda in 1945, he graduated in Bologna in 1968. He was a full professor at the Physics Department of the University of Bologna. Riva Del Garda, Trento
Riva del Garda (''Rìva'' in local dialect) is a town and ''comune'' in the northern Italian province of Trento of the Trentino Alto Adige region. It is also known simply as ''Riva'' and is located at the northern tip of Lake Garda. History Riva del Garda belonged to the Republic of Venice, the Bishopric of Trent, the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy and later (1815–1918) to the Austro-Hungarian Empire (when it was known as ). During the Third Italian War of Independence, Riva del Garda was an important supply base for the Austrian navy and was the only town on the lake captured by Italian forces. Double Slit Experiment
In modern physics, the double-slit experiment is a demonstration that light and matter can display characteristics of both classically defined waves and particles; moreover, it displays the fundamentally probabilistic nature of quantum mechanical phenomena. This type of experiment was first performed by Thomas Young in 1801, as a demonstration of the wave behavior of visible light. At that time it was thought that light consisted of ''either'' waves ''or'' particles. Electron Holography
Electron holography is holography with electron waves. Dennis Gabor invented holography in 1948 when he tried to improve resolution in electron microscope. The first attempts to perform holography with electron waves were made by Haine and Mulvey in 1952; they recorded holograms of zinc oxide crystals with 60 keV electrons, demonstrating reconstructions with approximately 1 nm resolution. In 1955, G. Möllenstedt and H. Düker invented an electron biprism. thus enabling the recording of electron holograms in off-axis scheme.
