''Giselle'' is a 2013 New Zealand drama film written and directed by Toa Fraser. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is based on the 2012 production ''Giselle'', performed by The Royal New Zealand Ballet which many of the cast members are part of. Toa Fraser
Toa Fraser (born 1975) is a New Zealand born playwright and film director, of Fijian heritage. His first feature film, '' No. 2'', starring Ruby Dee won the Audience Award (World Dramatic) at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. His second, ''Dean Spanley'', starring Sam Neill, Jeremy Northam and Peter O'Toole, premiered in September 2008. His third film ''Giselle'' was selected to be screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. His fourth, ''The Dead Lands'', a Maori action-adventure film, was released in 2014. Life Fraser moved to Auckland in 1989. He attended Sacred Heart College, Auckland and is a graduate of the University of Auckland. His father is Eugene Fraser who has worked for both the BBC and many other radio and TV stations across the world as a radio continuity presenter. Matthew Metcalfe
Matthew Christian Metcalfe FRHistS FRGS (born 1 March 1973) is a New Zealand film producer and screenwriter known for his biographical and documentary films. Metcalfe has also produced comedies and drama films, as well as being involved in several television series. At the start of his career, Metcalfe worked as a music producer in the early 2000s before moving into film and television. An early accolade he received was the best music video '' Tui Award'' in 2002 for Che Fu's, ''Fade Away'' video. After working in music video production, Metcalfe then went onto producing several short films to then full feature films and television series. Gillian Murphy
Gillian Murphy ( ; born April 11, 1979) is an American ballet dancer who is a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. Early life and education Raised in Florence, South Carolina, Murphy was a member of Columbia City Ballet before attending high school at University of North Carolina School of the Arts. There, under the tutelage of Melissa Hayden, she danced principal roles in several of the school's productions, including ''The Nutcracker'' and George Balanchine’s ''Concerto Barocco'', ''Western Symphony'', ''Tarantella'' and ''Theme and Variations''. Leon Narbey
Leon Gordon Alexander Narbey (born 2 August 1947) is a New Zealand cinematographer. Born in Helensville, Narbey was educated at the Elam School of Fine Arts, specialising in sculpture. Married Anita Janske Narbey (1944 - 2019) in 1966 and they had together two daughters Vanessa and Beatrix. He lectured at the University of Canterbury in 1972, before joining the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation as a news cameraman. In the mid-1970s, he shot the Geoff Steven documentary ''Te Matakite o Aotearoa'', about the 1975 Māori land march. In 1978 he made ''Bastion Point Day 507'' with Merata Mita and Gerd Pohlmann which he also edited and co-produced with them. Royal New Zealand Ballet
The Royal New Zealand Ballet is a ballet company based in Wellington, New Zealand. It was originally known as The New Zealand Ballet Company. History New Zealand Ballet was established in 1953 as an independent charitable trust by Royal Danish Ballet Principal Poul Gnatt, Beryl Nettleton, Bettina Edwards, another female dancer, and pianist Dorothea Franchi. In the late 1950s notable New Zealand dancers Rowena Jackson and Philip Chatfield, her English dancer husband, returned from overseas to join the company. NZ On Screen is a state-funded online promotional showcase of New Zealand television and film. Funded by NZ On Air, it provides free worldwide access to NZ-produced television, film and music videos. Content is streamed and the webpages provide authoritative background information. The site was launched in October 2008 and is updated constantly. It provides titles in full or as excerpts, with background notes, photographs and profiles of key cast and crew. All material is rights-cleared and there is some content now on the site that had not been seen since its mid-twentieth century screening.
