Gisela Kessler
Gisela Kessler (June 3, 1935 – May 14, 2014) was a German trade unionist. Life Kessler was born in Frankfurt am Main. She worked as a Clerk for Deutsche Bundespost, studied at the Akademie der Arbeit in Frankfurt and worked for the German Confederation of Trade Unions from 1967. From 1971 to 1991 she worked for the Printing and Paper Union, later the Media Union The Media Union (german: IG Medien – Druck und Papier, Publizistik und Kunst) was a trade union representing German workers in the printing, paper, journalism and arts. Labour and Social Justice – The Electoral Alternative (german: Arbeit und soziale Gerechtigkeit – Die Wahlalternative, WASG) was a left-wing German political party founded in 2005 by activists disenchanted with the ruling Red-Green coalition government. On 16 June 2007 WASG merged with Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) to form The Left (''Die Linke''). At the time of its merger with The Left Party. PDS, WASG party membership stood at about 11,600 members. The Left (Germany)
The Left (german: Die Linke; stylised as and in its logo as ), commonly referred to as the Left Party (german: Die Linkspartei, links=no ), is a democratic socialist political party in Germany. The party was founded in 2007 as the result of the merger of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and Labour and Social Justice – The Electoral Alternative. Through the PDS, the party is the direct descendant of the Marxist–Leninist ruling party of the former East Germany, the Socialist Unity Party of Germany. The German Communist Party (german: Deutsche Kommunistische Partei, ) is a communist party in Germany. The DKP supports left positions and was an observer member of the European Left. At the end of February 2016 it left the European party. The Media Union (german: IG Medien – Druck und Papier, Publizistik und Kunst) was a trade union representing German workers in the printing, paper, journalism and arts. The union was founded on 15 April 1989 at a meeting in Hamburg, with the merger of the Printing and Paper Union and the Arts Union. Initially, it had nine sectoral groups: Printing and Publishing, Paper and Plastics Processing, Broadcasting/Film/Audio-visual Media (RFFU), Journalism (dju/SWYV), Association of German Writers (VS), Fine Arts (BGBK), Performing Arts (IAL/Theater), Music (DMV/GDMK), Publishers and Agencies. The Printing and Paper Union (german: Industriegewerkschaft Druck und Papier, IG DruPa) was a trade union representing printing industry workers in West Germany. The union was founded on 29 November 1948, to represent workers in book printing, type founding, planographic printing, gravure printing, image production, bookbinding and paper processing. A few journalists also joined, and in 1951, they were given their own section, the "German Journalists Union". In 1949, the union became a founder member of the International Graphical Federation.
