Arthur Giry
Jean-Marie-Joseph-Arthur Giry (29 February 184813 November 1899) was a French historian, noted for his studies of France in the Middle Ages. He was born at Trévoux. After rapidly completing his classical studies at the lycée at Chartres, he spent some time in the administrative service and in journalism. He then entered the École Nationale des Chartes, where, under the influence of J. Quicherat, he developed a strong inclination to the study of the Middle Ages. The lectures at the École pratique des hautes études, which he attended from its foundation in 1868, revealed his true bent; and henceforth he devoted himself almost entirely to scholarship. He began modestly by the study of the municipal charters of Saint-Omer. Louis Giry
Louis Giry (8 February 1596 – 28 July 1665) was a French lawyer, translator and writer. Biography Born in Paris in 1595, Louis Giry was a French lawyer and was one of the first members of the Académie française. He served as the general counsel for the depreciation chamber and the freeholds in the Paris Parliament. He also became part of the Privy Council of Mazarin. Giry died in 1665 at age 70. He was the father of Francois Giry, noted for his commentary of the ''Rule of Saint Francois de Paule''. Works Giry's published works include ''Les verifons fuivantes'', ''la Pierre de touche'' which was a translation of Trajano Boccalini's original. Sylvie Giry-Rousset (born 21 July 1965) is a French cross-country skier who competed at a high level from 1992 to 1994. Rousset was born in Grenoble, Isère. Competing in two Winter Olympics, she earned her best results at the 1992 Games in Albertville with a fifth in the 4 × 5 km relay and 28th in the 15 km event. Madame Giry
Madame Giry is a fictional character from Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel ''The Phantom of the Opera''. She is a fairly intermediate character in the novel, although her role is much increased in Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical. Madame Giry is also a character in the 2010 musical '' Love Never Dies'', a sequel to ''The Phantom of the Opera''. Madame Giry in the ''Phantom of the Opera'' novel Madame Giry is an aging woman who works as a concierge in the ''rue de Provence'', who looks after patrons of the Opera, principally those who sit in the boxes. One night, whilst working, Madame Giry hears a male voice in Box Five, which she knows to be empty. After recovering from her surprise, she learns to trust the "voice" and does odd jobs for the owner. In the novel, it is never mentioned that she knows Christine Daaé.
