This is a list of the 42 ''comarques'' (singular ''comarca'', , ) into which Catalonia is divided. A ''comarca'' is a group of municipalities, roughly equivalent to a county in the US or a district or council in the UK. However, in the context of Catalonia, the term "county" can be a bit misleading, because in medieval Catalonia, aside from the kings of Aragon, the most important rulers were counts, notably the Counts of Barcelona and of Urgell. Cassà De La Selva
Cassà de la Selva is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Gironès in Catalonia, It is linked to Girona and to the Baix Empordà by the C-65 road. During the 20th century it was known for the production of cork and derived articles. With an increasing population of 9,200 citizens, this municipality is located 12 km south of Girona and 20 km west of the Mediterranean Sea. Transport The nearest train station is at Caldes de Malavella (8 km), and the Girona-Costa Brava Airport is at 10 km. There is a bus line that connects this town with Girona and Costa Brava towns such as Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Platja d'Aro or Palamós. Salt () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Gironès in Catalonia Catalonia (; ca, Catalunya ; Aranese Occitan: ''Catalonha'' ; es, Cataluña ) is an autonomous community of Spain, designated as a ''nationality'' by its Statute of Autonomy. Medinyà
Medinyà is a town in the comarca of Gironès in Catalonia. Between June 2015 and January 2018 it was an independent municipality, but has now reverted to forming part of the municipality of Sant Julià de Ramis. The town is located at the junction of the N-II and the GI-514 roads. In 2014 it consisted of 852 residents. A highlight of the town is Medinyà Castle. History The first recorded mention of the town is in 1017, in correspondence from Pope Benedict VIII to the monastery at Banyoles. The documents lists the municipalities controlled by the monastery. The writer Hans Christian Andersen mentioned the town in his 1862 travel book "I Spanien" (In Spain). In 1972 the town ceased being an independent municipality and was absorbed into Sant Julià de Ramis. Flaçà is a town in the Gironès county of Girona Province, Catalonia, Spain. It occupies an area of 6.67 square kilometers and extends the hills of the Lloreda Valley and alluvial plain of the Ter river.
