Girona
Girona (; ) is the capital city of the Province of Girona in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain, at the confluence of the Ter, Onyar, Galligants, and Güell rivers. The city had an official population of 106,476 in 2024, but the population of the Girona–Salt urban area is estimated to be about 156,400 (2020). Girona is also capital of the ''comarca'' of the Gironès and the vegueria of Girona. Since much of the old quarter of this ancient city has been preserved, Girona is a popular tourist destination. The city is located northeast of Barcelona. History The first historical inhabitants in the region were Iberians; Girona is the ancient Gerunda, a city of the Ausetani. The Cathedral of Saint Mary, (Catalan language, Catalan: ''Catedral de Santa Maria''), is a Catholic Church, Roman Catholic cathedral located in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Girona. The cathedral's interior includes the widest Gothic architecture, Gothic nave in the world, with a width of . The comarques of Catalonia (singular ''comarca'', , ), often referred to in English as counties, are an Subdivisions of Catalonia, administrative division of Catalonia. Salt, Spain
Salt () is a municipality in the comarca of the Gironès in Catalonia. It is situated on the right bank of the Ter next to Girona, with which it was merged from 1974 to 1984. The A-7 ''autopista'' and N-141 road pass through the municipality. From 1895, Salt was the temporary Girona terminus of the narrow gauge Olot–Girona railway, until the short section to Girona railway station was opened in 1898. Initially the line ran only as far as Amer, but it was extended to Les Planes d'Hostoles in 1900, Sant Feliu de Pallerols in 1902 and Olot in 1911. The line closed in 1969 and has since been converted into a greenway. Demonography Salt is known for its elevated ethnic diversity. Onyar
The Onyar (; Spanish language, Spanish: Oñar ; ''Undarius'' in Latin) is a Spanish river in Girona, Catalonia that begins at the Guilleries massif at the apex of the Catalan Transversal Range and the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range, Pre-Coastal Range. It joins the Ter River, Ter at the city of Girona, and crosses the city from south to north, separating the city into the old part (on the right side) and the more modern part (on the left side). During its course through the city, the Onyar river is joined by the waters coming from the Monar or Conda irrigation channel (which in turn comes from the Ter (river), Ter river), a channel that used to irrigate the orchards in the "Mercadal" area.
