Biniam Girmay Hailu (born 2 April 2000) is a professional Eritrean road cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . At the 2022 Giro d'Italia, he became the first Black African cyclist to win a Grand Tour stage after winning stage 10 in a reduced bunch sprint. Career After discovering cycling through his cousin Meron Teshome, Girmay joined the World Cycling Centre in 2018 for his second junior year. That year, he became a triple junior cycling champion of Africa, winning the road race, time trial and team time trial. He also won the first stage of Aubel–Thimister–Stavelot, beating out favorite Remco Evenepoel. In 2019, with the Eritrea national team, he won the third stage in a sprint of the La Tropicale Amissa Bongo, his first professional victory. Girmay Zahilay
Girmay Hadish Zahilay ( ; born May 6, 1987) is an American politician and lawyer who is a member of the King County Council from District 2 in Seattle, Washington. He was elected in 2019, defeating longtime incumbent Larry Gossett. Early life and education Zahilay and his brother were born in Sudan to Ethiopian refugees from Tigray who had escaped military conflict. He was three years old when his family immigrated to the United States, settling in the Rainier Valley. Zahilay moved between public housing arrangements in several neighborhoods in South Seattle, including the International District and Skyway, while his mother Abie worked double shifts as a nursing assistant. The family also stayed at a homeless shelter in Downtown Seattle between moves to public housing in NewHolly and Rainier Vista. Aracelis Girmay (born December 10, 1977) is an American poet. She is the author of three poetry collections, including ''Kingdom Animalia'' (2011), a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry. She is also Assistant Professor of Poetry at Hampshire College. Early life Aracelis Girmay is of Eritrean heritage and from Santa Ana, California. She attended Connecticut College and earned a Master of Fine Arts from New York University. Career Girmay's first collection was ''Teeth'' (2007), for which she won the Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award. Dagmawit Girmay Berhane (born 27 July 1975) is an Ethiopian sports director who served as the president of the Ethiopian Olympic Committee from 2004 to 2008. She presented the medals at the men's decathlon event in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
